There’s truly no such thing as a “broken” dog. More often, it’s the circumstances, the care they receive, and the love invested in them that shape who they become.
Sadly, not all owners see it that way. Some give up far too easily, leaving their loyal companions facing an undeserved and tragic fate.
This was the heartbreaking reality for Godric and Sadie, two beloved family dogs whose owners shockingly requested they be euthanized.
Godric’s Story

Hearts For Paws, a rescue based in Davis, California, recently shared the devastating account on social media.
A family walked into Solano County Animal Care with their three-year-old Chocolate Lab, Godric, and made a chilling request: they wanted him put down. Their explanation? Godric had bitten their baby.
“They brought Godric the 3 yr chocolate lab in, and told the shelter he bit the baby who had crawled into his food bowl,” the rescue posted on Instagram.
But what puzzled shelter staff was how drastically Godric’s behavior contrasted with the story. From the moment he arrived, he was nothing but gentle, no signs of aggression, perfectly well-mannered around strangers and caregivers alike.
While no one dismissed the possibility that the bite had happened, the shelter couldn’t understand why the family hadn’t tried to rehome him or simply surrender him. Instead, they had gone straight to asking for euthanasia.
Thankfully, the shelter refused and chose to give Godric a second chance.
That’s when another heartbreaking twist emerged.
A Second Blow

One day, while out with staff, Godric crossed paths with another shelter dog. Their tails wagged, noses bumped, they acted like long-lost friends.
It turned out they were. The other dog was Sadie, a six-year-old Plott Hound from the very same family. She had been surrendered just a month earlier… with the exact same request for euthanasia. The family claimed she had growled at their baby.

For a brief time, the two dogs were reunited, sharing happy moments together. Soon after, Godric was adopted into a loving home, but Sadie wasn’t as lucky.
Despite being just as sweet, she became one of the oldest residents at the shelter, constantly passed over.
“She is a great dog & there is no reason she can’t be adopted! More on her: Sadie is a 6-7 year Plott hound, spayed, good with dogs and people,” Hearts For Paws shared.

Today, Sadie is still waiting. She’s been transferred to Miranda’s Rescue in Fortuna, California, where she continues to hold onto hope that a family will finally see her worth.
After all she has endured, Sadie deserves nothing less than a forever home filled with patience, kindness, and unconditional love.
Hopefully, that day comes soon.
