Being an animal control officer often means carrying the burden of heartbreaking discoveries. The job is filled with moments where innocent lives are found in devastating conditions.
That was the case for one Texas officer searching for abandoned dogs when they came across Pixie.
She had been cruelly fastened to a pole in the middle of nowhere, far from the eyes of anyone who might have helped her. For days, Pixie curled up on the ground, her ribs pressing against her skin.
She was only days away from the end.
No Shelter, No Food, No Chance

Her abandonment had been carried out with chilling cruelty. With no way to shield herself from harm, no food, and no water, Pixie’s body began to waste away.
By the time she was discovered, she looked like nothing more than skin stretched over bones.
The officer’s decision to act quickly was the only thing that saved her, and it came at the very last moment.

“This sweet babe was found tied to a pole, with no food or water whatsoever. The amazing animal control officer seemingly found this sweet girl just in time or she wouldn’t have lasted much longer out there,” Brizzee Animal Rescue stated on social media.
When Emily and Mike Brizzee, the founders of Brizzee Animal Rescue, in Haslet, Texas learned about Pixie, they immediately stepped in. They knew a traditional shelter environment would only deepen her trauma.
That decision marked the beginning of a new chapter in her life.

With warmth, shelter, and safety, Pixie was finally able to take her first steps toward healing. For the first time, she was on her way to discovering what love feels like.
Finding Comfort With A Family

Learning to trust again was not an easy path for Pixie, but Emily and her family gave her everything she needed to feel safe.
She had space to move freely, along with endless care and affection. Slowly, Pixie began to open her heart again.
She greeted her new family with kisses, wagging her tail and smiling whenever Emily and Mike were nearby. But most of all, she formed a deep connection with Brody, the couple’s eight-year-old son.

Pixie now curls up beside him every single night, finally resting without fear.
“She began to trust us and open up. She has become very attached to our 8-year-old son and sleeps with him at night,” Emily told The Dodo.
Her rescuers continue to work closely with her, making sure her fears stay in the past. When the time is right, Pixie will search for her forever home.
Until then, she knows the comfort of hoomans who will never leave her behind. Pixie has finally discovered that people can offer loyalty, safety, and love, and that is what she longs for in her future family.
