Three Dogs Left In The Middle Of Washington Wilderness Take Shelter In A Pipe Hoping For Rescue

Every pup deserves to grow up in a safe and caring home.

Sadly, some cruel people turn their backs on their dogs and abandon them without any compassion.

Three young dogs were left behind in the middle of nowhere in Kennewick, Washington.

Trying to escape the blazing heat, the tired pups crawled into a metal pipe nearby for shelter. They huddled close to each other, finding comfort in their little group.

Deep inside, they wished that someone kind would come across them and take them to safety.

The Dogs Are Spotted

Thankfully, a man named Jim Tietsort was driving down the empty road when he saw the three abandoned pups.

He tried to catch them, but the dogs were too frightened and ran back into the pipe.

Since Tietsort couldn’t get them out, he shared a plea for help on Facebook, hoping someone else would step in.

Local resident Nikki Surgeon came across the post, and she knew right away she had to try. She drove to the spot, but despite her efforts, she couldn’t locate them that day.

She was heartbroken that someone had left the pups on a deserted road to struggle with hunger, thirst, and unbearable heat.

“For somebody to dump dogs where they have nowhere to go and there’s no shelter — and it was like 98 degrees [Fahrenheit] out — it’s terrible,” Surgeon told The Dodo.

Determined to help, Surgeon went back the following day. That time, she finally came face to face with the dogs.

The pups, later given the names Canyon, Pebble, and Sahara, looked at her with suspicion in their eyes.

Surgeon offered food and gently spoke to them, but the frightened dogs still wouldn’t let her get close.

Earning The Dogs’ Trust

Surgeon teamed up with another kind woman, Sandy Orton, and together they visited the dogs three times each day. They kept bringing food and water, patiently trying to earn their trust.

The pups were thankful for the kindness, even if they didn’t show it at first. Slowly, their wary eyes softened, and they began inching closer.

Within just two days, the rescuers and local helpers managed to safely capture Canyon and Sahara.

But Pebble, the brindle female, remained too scared.

They gave her more time, continuing their visits and showing her patience.

By the fifth day, Pebble finally began to trust them. The moment she allowed them to slip a leash around her neck, her rescuers were overjoyed.

They hugged her and gently reassured her that she was safe now.

As soon as she felt their soft touch, Pebble’s fear started to fade. She leaned into their affection, as if she wanted to say thank you for not giving up on her.

All three pups were taken to a veterinary clinic for checkups. To everyone’s relief, they were found to be in fairly good health.

Searching For Their Forever Families

Surgeon offered to foster Canyon, Sahara, and Pebble, showering them with love and comfort.

Despite everything they had endured, the dogs quickly learned to open up again. Their playful and sweet sides began to shine.

Soon after, Mikey’s Chance Canine Rescue, located in West Richland, Washington, took over their care.

The trio is now waiting for long-term fosters or families who will promise them forever homes.

I truly hope these three pups get the happily ever after they deserve. They should never have to fear being abandoned again.

Thank you to the kind people who stepped up and gave them a second chance, filling their lives with hope for the future.
