All shelter dogs live in hope that they will soon meet their forever parents who will hold them in their arms and make them feel loved. All pups deserve that love.
Sadly, many shelter dogs get disappointed because potential adopters pass them by without even giving them a chance. The canines feel invisible because they are overlooked every single day.
Despite being ignored, they never lose hope that one day, their forever parents will come and take them to their forever home.
Kylie is one of those wonderful shelter pups who knows exactly how it feels to be disappointed and overlooked time after time.
More than anything in this world, Kylie wants a chance. She longs to meet humans who will give her the love that she deserves.
Kylie’s Family Had No Choice
Kylie once lived happily on a farm, where she was cared for and had a family of her own. Life seemed good, but things changed when she became pregnant.
Her family looked after her, but her pregnancy turned difficult and it became clear she would need a C-section.
Unable to afford the surgery, her owners made the painful decision to surrender her to the Spokane Humane Society in Washington so she could get the medical care she needed.
Thankfully, Kylie delivered healthy puppies through the procedure, and all of them went on to loving homes.
But Kylie stayed behind. She couldn’t understand why her family left her, and she waited for them, missing their affection.
The staff felt heartbroken watching such a gentle mama dog be overlooked by everyone who came through the doors.
A Different Shelter
Hoping she might have a better chance elsewhere, Kylie was transferred to the Benton-Franklin Humane Society, in Kennewick, Washington.
Julie, a volunteer there, quickly fell in love with the sweet dog. She spends time sitting with Kylie, giving her affection whenever she can.
“I’ll sit in the kennel with her and she’ll sit with me. She likes getting pets. It’s tough for her because she doesn’t get as much people time as she would like,” Julie told GeoBeats Animals.
Like the other dogs, Kylie lights up whenever more volunteers come to play with them.
“She’s so excited, otherwise they are stuck in their kennels usually for around 22 hours a day,” Julie said.
When Kylie hears people approaching, she greets them eagerly with a toy in her mouth, tail wagging and eyes shining. It is her way of showing how much she wants to play and connect.
Julie often brings Kylie new toys from the store, just to see her smile.
People Pup
Before coming to the shelter, Kylie had been used to farm life and interacting with other animals. But after three years in confinement, her behavior has shifted. She no longer enjoys being around other pets.
Julie believes this has been the biggest challenge in finding Kylie a family.
“I think that is 90% of the reason why she hasn’t found a home because most animal lovers have a dog or a cat. So to find someone that fits Kylie’s needs is really tough,” she said.
Even so, Kylie absolutely loves being with people. Julie introduced her to her nieces, and Kylie was thrilled to meet them, showering them with affection.
The sweet dog has so much love to give. All she needs is the chance to show it.
As Julie said for GeoBeats Animals, their area has “a huge pet overpopulation problem”, which makes it hard to even find a foster willing to take Kylie in.
Still, the staff believes in her. They know she deserves a home filled with the love she craves.
For Kylie, nothing would mean more than leaving the shelter behind and finally being part of a family again.
