After being left behind in Texas, Mr. Snufflufugus, a five-year-old dog, was suddenly on his own with no idea what to do next.
Scared and unsure where to go, he wandered through the streets of Copperas Cove, quietly seeming to hope that someone would notice he was having a hard time and help him.
It was not long before local animal control received a call about a loose dog who looked like he needed help. They found him, carefully guided him to safety, and took him to the Copperas Cove Animal Control shelter.
The moment Mr. Snufflufugus realized he was safe and no longer in danger, he wrapped his little arms around his rescuers in a gentle, emotional hug that completely won over the staff.
One employee even managed to capture that moment in a photo.
A Hug That Changed Everything
The image quickly made its way across social media, drawing widespread attention and sparking countless adoption requests.
“Victoria and I were in the play area with Mr. Snufflufugus when he decided he needed a hug,” said Tamara Hall, the animal control supervisor, in an interview with The Dodo.
It soon became clear to the shelter team that this sweet dog loved nothing more than affection. His charm won everyone over instantly.
“If you are sitting on the floor or ground, he is sure to seek your attention by climbing into your lap or snuggling up next to you. He uses his irresistible sweet eyes while looking up for attention,” Hall also said.
Beyond his love for cuddles, Mr. Snufflufugus was known for his easygoing temperament and appreciation for quiet relaxation.
Victoria wrote on her Facebook, “He would rather sit on the couch and be a potato, a good potato who gets many head scratches and gets to sit on your chest and snore, and is told quite often what a good boy he is.”
A Viral Moment Opens New Doors
After the Copperas Cove Police Department shared his photo, interest in adopting Mr. Snufflufugus skyrocketed. Messages poured in from people hoping to give him a home.
They wrote on their Facebook profile, “Thank you ALL for expressing interest in Mr. Snufflufugus and for sharing our post! We recently discovered that he needs to be in a single pet home, with no small children. While he is exceptionally affectionate, this could create a problem in a home where he becomes possessive of the adult owner.”
Because the shelter could not handle the overwhelming number of applicants, they arranged for Mr. Snufflufugus to be transferred to Pit Squad Rescue in Minnesota, where staff could carefully screen potential adopters.
He is currently receiving treatment for heartworm, which requires extensive medical care, but the rescue is committed to helping him recover fully.

Mr. Snufflufugus is now thriving with his foster family, who adore his affectionate nature and joyful personality.
