Florida Stray Dog Guards His Hurt Friend Refusing To Leave Her Alone Until Help Finally Comes

Friendships bring meaning to life, and animals understand this truth as much as people do.

Dogs are especially known for their ability to form bonds with almost anyone, which is one reason they make such faithful companions.

This story follows a devoted stray who refused to leave his injured friend’s side, determined they would be saved together.

A Silent Plea For Help

In Florida, rescuer Betty Walter received a call from a friend who had seen a dog struck by a car. Since Betty had experience fostering and adopting, her friend immediately thought of her.

Although Betty was already at capacity and couldn’t take in more animals, the situation weighed heavily on her. After finishing work, she decided to check whether anyone had stepped in to help the dog.

When she arrived, she discovered the injured pup was still lying there. To her surprise, another dog was with her, standing guard and refusing to leave.

The two strays, later named Betty White and Allen, had moved from the road to a patch of grass, where they rested and waited together.

Betty White was the one who had been hit, and Allen stayed faithfully beside her, unwilling to abandon her.

Walter told The Dodo: When I pulled up, there were a couple of dogs in the distance and he chased them off.

When I got out of my car to look at her, he ran toward me … I had to assure him I was there to help.

At first, Allen was nervous and uncertain of Walter’s intentions, but after some time, he began to relax. She still needed assistance getting both dogs into her car, so she contacted her friend, who soon arrived to help.

They managed to lift Betty White into the vehicle, but Allen refused to be left behind, so he was brought along too.

The strength of their bond was striking, and witnessing such devotion between dogs was truly moving.

At the veterinary clinic, x-rays showed that Betty White had a broken pelvis. Surgery could repair the damage, and afterward she was placed in a foster home to recover.

Of course, Allen stayed close to her the entire time. Their foster family quickly noticed just how inseparable the two were and how much they enjoyed each other’s company.

Although Allen was ready for adoption, his foster mom initially chose not to list him because she hoped they would find a home together.

Walter said: They really love attention. They need someone who is going to give them lots of kisses and hugs. To keep them safe and make them feel safe.

Allen loves toys, so someone to throw the ball and play chase with. Betty wants a bed to lay and stay by your feet.

Despite those efforts, the pair were ultimately adopted into different households.

Even so, both found loving homes in Florida, and their new families ensure they still meet up for playdates, keeping their friendship alive.
