A shelter employee at Lucky’s Crew Animal Rescue in Bakersfield was left stunned and devastated after seeing an owner heartlessly dump two dogs out of their pickup truck right in front of the rescue.
The two Belgian Malinois looked bewildered as they were left behind, their eyes following the vehicle. Despite the neglect, the loyal pups chased after the truck, tails wagging, desperately hoping their owner would stop and return for them.
The heartbreaking moment was captured on video by the shelter worker, who spoke softly to the dogs and reassured them she would take them in. Her gentle presence became the lifeline these frightened animals so badly needed.
Shelter Staff Steps In
The sight of the two abandoned Malinois left the staff member distraught. Both dogs were clearly in poor condition — tired, undernourished, and in need of care.
The male pup was blind in one eye, while the female’s coat was filthy and neglected. The shelter staff suspected the pair had come from a backyard breeding situation, and the thought of what they may have endured was deeply upsetting.
Wanting to get them help quickly, the staff member posted the video on her TikTok account. The footage of their abandonment spread rapidly, stirring anger online and sparking an outpouring of support.
While the dogs were initially stressed and confused, the care and affection they received from staff helped them begin to relax. Soon, they started showing gratitude, licking the hands of their caregivers, as if realizing they were finally safe. Lucky’s Crew Animal Rescue filed a report with authorities, who launched an investigation into the abandonment. Meanwhile, the two Malinois were transferred to Kern County Animal Services for their mandatory stray hold period.
Though Lucky’s Crew was already overcrowded, they made plans to welcome the pair as soon as they were eligible. Staff and supporters alike hoped the dogs would soon leave the shelter behind and begin their journey toward the loving home they deserved.
Recently, Lucky’s Crew Animal Rescue shared an uplifting update. The Malinois and Dutch Shepherd Rescue (MAD Rescue) in Michigan had stepped in and officially taken the dogs under their care.
