It’s not something you see every day: an animal perched on a rooftop, so when a resident in a New Jersey neighborhood caught sight of a furry figure on top of a house, they were stunned.
Taking a closer look, the neighbor was surprised to realize the fuzzy creature was actually a scruffy and underfed puppy.
The little dog, later named Fiddler, paced the rooftop shingles like he was hoping someone might spot him and come to his rescue.
The resident snapped a photo and posted it to Facebook, asking others for help.
Finally Meeting The People Who Came To Save Him

Thankfully, kindhearted people quickly showed up at the house to help Fiddler.
Even though the puppy seemed to know he needed saving, he was nervous and overwhelmed when the rescuers arrived.
They gently spoke to him in calm voices, and eventually, Fiddler began to trust them. He seemed to understand that these were the people he’d been waiting for.
The poor pup was worn out and so thin that his ribs showed through his frail frame.
He was brought to a nearby shelter that was already over capacity, where he stayed on a stray hold for seven days. Nobody came looking for him.

Luckily, the dedicated team at Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge in Oakland, New Jersey, stepped in and took him under their wing.
Not long after meeting his rescuers, Fiddler began to let his playful and sweet personality shine through.
The team could see that this little dog had a strong spirit. All he wanted was someone to care about him.
“Fiddler is pure spirit. He wants to play. To love. To live,” Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge wrote in a Facebook post.
The team got to work giving him the care he so badly needed. They gently groomed his tangled coat and gave him a full checkup.

Veterinarians put him on a careful feeding plan to help him gain weight.
His caregivers made sure he felt safe and surrounded him with love. Fiddler started to believe things were finally turning around.
Hopeful For A Bright Future Ahead
Little by little, Fiddler started to thrive. His eyes sparkled with new energy and optimism. He grew stronger and more playful by the day.
He was no longer the same sad pup; instead, he was bringing happiness to everyone he met.
“He is a typical silly puppy — tall, lanky, awkward and endlessly charming. Fiddler loves playing with other dogs, soaking up attention and bouncing around with a goofy joy that’s contagious,” a representative from the rescue told The Dodo.
Now all Fiddler needs to be completely content is a forever family who will love him the way he’s always deserved.
His perfect home would be with patient adopters willing to continue his training and give him the support he needs.
Fiddler is ready to leave behind the tough memories of his past and begin again.
Like his rescue team, we’re all cheering him on as he searches for the happiness he deserves.
