People find strange things in parks all the time; lost toys, forgotten lunches, sometimes even wallets that never get claimed. Most of it isn’t worth a second glance.
That’s what one man thought when his dog stopped beside a crumpled paper bag near the trail. It looked ordinary, the kind of thing you’d step over without thinking.
But when his dog from Nebraska leaned in to sniff, something inside moved, and the quiet moment quickly turned into something else entirely.
What Was Inside A Bag?
Destinie Freeman and her dog, Popcorn, were just enjoying a nice walk through the park when they suddenly saw something they did not expect.
It was a mysterious paper bag on the ground. They approached it and were shocked after realizing what was inside.
Freeman told The Dodo: “We were approaching the park when I saw something that looked like a paper bag on the ground. It was pretty dark, so I let Popcorn go investigate, assuming it was nothing, when it started meowing!”
Popcorn was scared, so he ran back, but Freeman wanted to check it out, so she tied Popcorn to a tree in order to investigate.
She moved in to see what it was, and then she realized it was a small kitten. How did it end up there? Who could have done something like this?
Luckily for the kitten, she was uninjured and seemed mostly healthy. She grabbed the kitten gently and carried her back to her home in Nebraska.
However, Freeman noticed that the kitten was also really scared and didn’t like being held by anyone. She knew that her current plan wouldn’t work.
So, she took the cat back to the same spot where she had found it and then dropped off Popcorn at their home. She went back for the kitten with a cat carrier and some food.
Hopefully, this would soothe her at least a little bit. However, she couldn’t find the kitten after returning to the spot. She was nowhere to be seen.
Freeman Saved Her Just In Time
She spent fifteen minutes just looking through the park and found nothing. Freeman almost gave up hope, but then something surprising happened.
She said: “After about 15 minutes of looking, I sat down in defeat. Just as I was about to give up and go home, sure enough … she came running towards me!”
In that moment, the kitten completely let her guard down, almost like she knew that she was finally safe with her.
After taking her home, Freeman began to search for any information she could on the kitten. How did she end up there inside a bag?
She continues by saying: “After checking our neighborhood lost pets page, I pieced together that she was a local stray kitten that neighbors had been feeding for a while, and nobody had taken her in yet.”
Freeman took her to a vet to confirm whether or not she had a microchip, and she found out that the kitten was actually a stray.
Now that the kitten is staying with Freeman, she will do everything in her power to make her feel as comfortable as possible. The woman decided to keep her, and that’s just wonderful news.
The family is hopeful that the kitten and Popcorn will get along just great, and so far, things are going well. It’s really great to see that her story has a happy ending.
