A Sick Puppy Was Given Months To Live Until A Woman Gave Him A Chance

Life isn’t just about the numbers. It’s also about quality and making every moment count – something Beans would definitely agree with if he could speak.

When his breeder surrendered him to a Florida shelter, he wasn’t given a chance.

Beans’ caregivers were told that this little Bulldog wouldn’t live to see his first birthday due to numerous genetic and physical issues. What no one knew at the time was that Beans was a fighter!

Upon meeting his new mom, he literally took everyone by surprise with his resilience!

He Wasn’t Expected To Make It To His First Birthday

Beans’ situation was far from ideal. After being surrendered by his breeder, this little guy was labeled a hospice patient by his neurologist. He was only one-third of what he should have weighed at ten weeks of age. Plus, he was coping with multiple health issues.

However, that did not stop Karey, a medical foster for Suncoast Animal League, Florida, from giving him a chance.

“Beans was determined to be surviving with scoliosis, spina bifida, shortened spinal cord syndrome, hydrocephalus, shallow hip sockets & rotary nystagmus. He is about 1/3 of the size he should be at just 27lbs,” Karey wrote on Instagram.

Beans was only given a few months to live and Karey had to come up with a plan quickly.

“We were told he probably wouldn’t make it to his first birthday, so I took him home,” Karey told GeoBeats Animals.

She introduced him to the rest of the crew… her other two rescue dogs, Denali and Hugo. Her only goal was to make Beans’ life as good as possible, not knowing he would end up thriving in his new environment.

Despite challenges, Beans was more than happy to have a home of his own. He played with his doggo siblings, showed remarkable resilience, and never gave up. He even made it to his first birthday, which was nothing short of a miracle!

That’s when Karey realized Beans was a fighter! He simply wouldn’t let his condition prevent him from enjoying life. And, the good thing was that he wasn’t in any sort of pain.

Beans simply learned to live life to the best of his ability, not knowing that he was different from other dogs.

His unbelievable spirit led him through every obstacle, including an emergency situation that happened in his second year in Karey’s home. His body just stopped working, and Karey subjected him to emergency surgery.

Days later, Beans came out as a winner and continued his life as if nothing happened

Recently, he celebrated his second birthday in his new home and is stronger than ever!

Beans, A Certified Therapy Dog, A Lover, And A Miracle

Putting his health situation aside, it is safe to say that Beans truly has everything he ever wanted and probably more! He has a family, a loving home, two amazing siblings, and the entire community cheering for him.

Karey really did the job and created a nurturing environment for this little pup, filled with so much love.

“Knowing that Beans life would be limited by time, we wanted to make sure that the time he DOES have is filled with love & adventures,” Karey added.

What’s even more fascinating is that Beans is a certified therapy dog today. He visits hospitals and schools, teaching the people in need that being different is not an inability.

Beans’ life got a purpose in more ways than anyone could ever expect. He’s not only a hospice survivor, he’s a lover, a therapist, a miracle, and the best friend anyone could wish for!
