Pup Struggling With Serious Illness Spent 791 Days In Hawaii Rescue And Then Everything Changed One Day

All Princess ever wished for, while sitting behind the bars of her kennel, was the chance to feel free. Yet after a lifetime of struggles, all she could do was watch other dogs leave with families, while she stayed behind.

This terminally ill Pittie mix in Hawaii seemed ready to shut down entirely.

But then, one woman stumbled across her story online, and in a matter of days, everything changed for Princess in the most beautiful way.

Tasting Love And Freedom For The First Time

Much of Princess’ life before reaching the Maui Humane Society is unknown. What rescuers did know was heartbreaking: she had been found in a remote area, skeletal, sick, and suffering from congestive heart failure.

Despite her frailty, Princess showed nothing but sweetness during her time at the shelter.

Still, she was overlooked again and again, just as many older Pitties often are. Families searching for pets would pass her by without a second glance.

Over the next few years, she stayed in multiple foster homes, but none became her permanent family.

Before long, Princess had become one of the longest residents of the Maui Humane Society.

“That’s over two years of watching other dogs come and go, hoping her turn might come too. She arrived at Maui Humane Society as a stray, thin and tired. Now 10 years old, she’s our longest resident, and time is catching up to her,” Cassondra, the rescue volunteer, wrote in the video.

Everything shifted when a woman named Ginger Cabais discovered Princess’ video on social media.

Ginger had spent years helping dogs heal and find homes, and now that she lived in Hawaii, she felt compelled to give Princess the hospice home she so badly needed.

The next step was simply figuring out how to bring Princess to her.

Thanks to volunteer pilot Bianca, who offered to fly Princess to Oahu, and Cassondra, who traveled alongside the pup, the long-time shelter resident was finally on her way to a new beginning.

The moment Princess and Ginger met, it was as if they had known each other forever.

Princess relaxed quickly, leaning into her new mom as if she understood she was finally safe.

She’s The Princess Of Her New Home

Seeing Princess in Ginger’s arms touched everyone who had followed her story. After more than 791 days in a kennel, she could now curl up in a soft bed, take in the sunshine, and enjoy simple comforts she had never truly known.

Although her health challenges remain and her golden years are here, one thing is clear: every day forward will be filled with warmth and love.

“It’s been a long road filled with love, healing, and hope. From the kind souls who rescued her over two years ago, to every foster family who opened their hearts and homes—we are so grateful. This is why we do what we do,” the Hawaii rescue concluded in the post.

At last, Princess has the life she always deserved, spending her days not as a forgotten shelter dog, but as the cherished companion of a loving family.
