When Kosandra Ramirez, a rescuer at ThisIsHouston, a rescue group in Houston, Texas, learned that there was a dog in Cleveland who needed urgent help, she immediately headed to rescue him.
Upon her arrival at the location, Ramirez saw the doggo who seemed to have given up on himself.
Curled up in a ball, he was lying under a mobile home and trembling with cold. He was so emaciated that all his bones were protruding from his body.
The rescuer immediately tried to pick him up and take him to the vet.
However, the doggo was terrified of Ramirez and he didn’t let her approach him.
The Dog’s Fight For His Life
The rescuer deduced from the dog’s behavior that he had never interacted with kind humans. He was feral.
Luckily, although it was hard, Ramirez managed to rescue the doggo, later named Chief, and she rushed him to an emergency hospital.
Chief fell asleep during the ride. When he woke up half an hour later, he felt frustrated and confused. He wondered what was going on.
Upon reaching the hospital, the dog was thoroughly examined.
The vet was convinced that at some point in his life, the dog was hit by a car.
After running the necessary tests, it was discovered that Chief had severe anemia and a high count of white blood cells.
He started receiving IV fluids.
One night, Chief had a seizure. Ramirez was frightened for the pup and thought she had lost him, but luckily, the doctors stabilized him.
Later on, the doggo was transferred to specialists who diagnosed him with hepatozoonosis, a rare tick-borne disease.
Unfortunately, the disease cannot be cured but it can be managed.
Chief was prescribed antibiotics and he soon started feeling better.
Discovering Love
After staying at the hospital for four weeks, Chief was discharged.
Ramirez picked him up and fostered him.
She took care of him and helped him get back on his paws. As he started walking, the rescuer noticed that the doggo had developed a limp.
Once he regained his strength, the doggo underwent femoral head ostectomy (FHO) surgery and made a full recovery.
Chief loved playing with his doggy foster siblings who were teaching him how to be a dog.
Although he started trusting his foster mom, the doggo still didn’t let her cuddle him.
He underwent training that helped him regain his confidence.
Thanks to Ramirez’ patience and love, the dog opened his heart to love and let his foster mom shower him with love.
The Forever Home Of His Dreams
The lovely dog gained weight and he made an amazing transformation.
A wonderful family decided to adopt him and give him the life that he deserved.
Once he moved in with his new family, the doggo hid in the bathroom and in the bedroom closet, trying to avoid them. He needed some time to warm up to his new family.
However, thanks to his parents’ unconditional love, Chief realized that he was safe.
His doggy brother, Lou, became his best friend and the two dogs had a great time playing together.
As time passed, Chief came out of his shell and bonded with his forever parents.
The sweet dog lives his best life with his family and his doggy brother.
Many thanks to all the good humans who helped Chief get the second chance at happiness that he deserved.
