Dogs long for steady love and the quiet security that comes from knowing they matter. When they feel protected and appreciated, they blossom.
That is what makes stories of abandonment so hard to process. A dog who once trusted completely can suddenly find herself confused, left without the reassurance she depended on.
Yogurt, a gentle and sensitive pup, experienced that heartbreak firsthand.
Her family brought her to a shelter and stated they no longer wanted her.
Meeting Yogurt

Jamie was working as an adoptions counselor at the Atlanta Humane Society in Georgia. During her shift, she noticed a couple entering the admissions area with their dog.
When she approached to speak with them, they explained that they were surrendering their pet, Yogurt. From the moment Jamie looked at the frightened little dog, something inside her shifted.
“She was hunkered down looking like a scared little girl. I don’t know what it was. I just saw her and I was like, okay, this is my dog.”
Jamie couldn’t ignore the feeling that she was meant to help Yogurt.
Learning How to Be a Dog

After adopting Yogurt, Jamie quickly discovered that her new companion had never experienced life indoors. Her previous family had kept her outside all the time, so everything in the house was unfamiliar.
At first, Yogurt didn’t understand how to eat from a bowl, so Jamie placed her food on the floor until she got the hang of it. Slowly, Yogurt began adjusting to her new environment.
Because she was shy and uncertain, Jamie introduced her to her parents’ dog to help her learn how to socialize. It was clear that patience would be key, and Jamie was more than ready to give her all the time she needed.
After a few months, Yogurt began to blossom. She started to enjoy walks, meeting people, and playing in the yard. Watching her confidence grow brought Jamie endless joy.
Soon, simple pleasures like rolling in the grass or lying in the sun became Yogurt’s favorite parts of the day.
A Bond That Lasts Forever

As time went on, the two formed an unbreakable connection that carried them through life’s challenges.
“We’re probably a little too codependent on each other honestly…She’s been with me through a lot (of) the worst things that have happened to me. We both can have a little bit too much anxiety at times but we are both very good at grounding each other.”
Though Yogurt isn’t overly affectionate, she always knows when Jamie needs her. She’ll lie quietly nearby, offering comfort just by being close.
Jamie has made a lasting promise to the dog who changed her life.
“I love her unconditionally. Whatever happens with her, she’ll always be mine. I will love her for the rest of my life.”

Today, Yogurt is thriving. She enjoys adventures with her family and even appears on her own Instagram account alongside her dog sibling, Titan.
Yogurt and her family relocated to Fort Collins, Colorado, where her happy new chapter continues.
It’s heartwarming to know that after all she’s been through, Yogurt finally has the home and love she always deserved.
