All dogs deserve families who cherish them and make them feel safe and cared for. Unfortunately, some heartless owners let these loyal and loving animals down. They leave them behind with no concern for what comes next.
Today’s story features Gibbs, an adorable 6-week-old puppy who experienced what it’s like to be left all alone. The tiny pup had been placed in a cardboard box and left outside a shelter during the night.
Frightened and alone, he began crying out, hoping someone would hear his call and come to help.
Discovering A Little Pup Inside The Box

Late one night, a staff member at a shelter in Orangeburg, South Carolina, remembered something they forgot to do and returned to the facility.
As they approached the front, they noticed a cardboard box placed on a bench. The box had a label on it that read “small.”
Just before opening it to check the contents, they heard tiny cries. When they lifted the lid, they saw a set of the sweetest puppy eyes gazing up at them.

The puppy’s expression was sad, yet hopeful. The worker brought him inside right away. The pup, who would later be named Gibbs, felt relief as the kind person fed him and offered care.
The staff member felt disheartened that someone had abandoned such a sweet dog after hours but was thankful they had come back that night.
Settling Into A Foster Environment

The next morning, the shelter shared the story of the small, abandoned puppy on Facebook. Once Eunoia Rescue in Charleston, South Carolina, came across the post, they offered to take him in.
As soon as they met Gibbs, their hearts melted. It was hard to believe anyone could leave behind such a precious little pup.
They gave him a much-needed bath to clean him up and remove the fleas and worms that covered his tiny body. Aside from that, he was doing just fine. He received cuddles and attention from his new caretakers.
Afterward, Gibbs was placed in a foster home, where he now enjoys being showered with affection.
“He LOVES other dogs and acts like he weighs 50 pounds instead of just a measly 4 pounds and will chase all his foster siblings around. He’s happy, healthy and just waiting to be big enough to be neutered before he’s adopted,” Eunoia Rescue said.
It’s heartening to know that kind people came to Gibbs’ rescue and gave him the love and care he needed. There’s no doubt this lovable pup will soon find a forever family and home that will treat him right.
