Arkansas Shelter Worker Finds A Mysterious Sealed Box At Dawn And Can’t Believe What’s Inside

It’s hard to understand how anyone could look into a dog’s eyes and still walk away. Yet, it happens far too often.

Pets who once knew love are left behind, confused and afraid, their safety hanging on a moment of luck. Abandoning them doesn’t just break their trust; it leaves them fighting to survive a world they never chose.

One morning in Little Rock, Arkansas, a new shelter employee arrived at the Central Arkansas Rescue Effort for Animals to start her shift, unaware of the surprise waiting for her.

As she approached the shelter door, something caught her eye. There was a cardboard box at the entrance.

A Shocking Discovery At Dawn

At first, she thought it was a donation. But then she noticed the words scrawled across the top: “6 puppies… Around 2 months.”

Her heart began to race. She bent down, lifted a corner of the box, and froze. Inside, six tiny faces stared back at her, trembling and silent.

She quickly called for help.

Shortly afterward, CARE’s program coordinator and executive director, Alexandra Mounger, arrived. Together, they carried the box inside and gently lifted the lid.

The puppies clung close to each other on a scrap of cloth.

“Pretty much all of them were timid and had a freeze response when we picked them up to move or clean them,” Mounger told The Dodo. “It had to be really scary being separated from their mother and put in a dark, small space with no food or water.”

The team worked fast to get them warm and fed.

At first, the pups were too scared to move, but as the hours passed, their tails began to twitch and their eyes softened. They were starting to feel safe.

Finding Comfort And Joy

CARE isn’t meant for long-term housing, but the staff made room for the little ones to play and explore. As their fear disappeared, their personalities began to emerge.

The puppies were named after Star Wars characters: Finn, Luke, Leia, Han, Kylo, and Rey.

“Luke is by far the most vocal when things aren’t going his way. Finn was by far the most well-behaved at first, rarely making noise or knocking over food [and] water dishes,” Mounger shared.

He loved joining Luke’s games, full of energy and fun, yet when it was time to sleep, he would curl up in the middle of the pack.

The shelter was filled with the sound of tiny paws and happy squeaks.

The puppies chased each other around, wrestled over toys, and napped in a warm pile of fur.

Before long, all six were placed in loving foster homes. There, they’re learning what it feels like to be cared for and loved.

Mounger hopes their rescue inspires others to make compassionate choices: to spay, neuter, and never abandon their beloved pets.

Thanks to a single moment of kindness, Luke, Han, Finn, Kylo, Leia, and Rey now have the bright, safe futures every puppy deserves.
