Virginia Shelter Rescues A Heartbroken Dog Who Was Tied To A Bus Pole And Left In Freezing Weather

Imagine how desperate a sweet black Pit Bull mix felt after his owner tied him to a bus pole and dumped him at the intersection of Chambers Street and Bowen Street in Richmond, Virginia.

It was a freezing night and the doggo was shivering with cold and fear.

He couldn’t understand why the person whom he loved the most left him all alone.

However, the heartbroken dog refused to believe that he was abandoned. He stood on the side of the road hoping that his owner would come back and take him home.

Heroes Exist

The pup’s tearful eyes twinkled in the dark as he kept looking at the road. The more time that passed, the more sorrowful he became. He started losing hope that his owner would return for him.

Fortunately, a Good Samaritan spotted the doggo tethered to the pole and immediately contacted Richmond Animal Care and Control and asked for help.

The staff rushed to the scene right away, worried that the dog could get hypothermia.

Appalled that the pup was dumped in such harsh conditions, the shelter took to Facebook and left a message for his owner.

“To the person who left their dog tied to the bus line pole in the freezing cold last night. Do better,” the shelter posted on Facebook.

When one of the shelter staff members untied the doggo and picked him up, he felt relieved because his nightmare had come to an end.

The shelter staff drove the pup to the shelter. They comforted him and took care of him.

The Doggo Hopes For A New Beginning

The most recent rescue occurred after the director of Richmond Animal Care and Control, Christie Chipps-Peters, addressed the issue of pet abandonment during a September 2024 interview with WWBT, an NBC-affiliated station.

“The shelter should be your absolute last resort. It’s stressful, we euthanize, we don’t want your pet there,” Chipps-Peters said.

Owners who want to rehome their pets should reach out to no-kill rescues or explore other alternatives like relatives and friends. Surrendering the dogs to overcrowded shelters and leaving them for animal control to manage should be the owners’ last option.

As for the Richmond pup, luckily, he is doing great.

The authorities are now investigating the case and hope to find his owner.

I hope that the doggo will find a new family who will love him immensely. He deserves to overcome his heartbreak and become the happiest pup in the world.

Many thanks to the Good Samaritan who noticed the dog and called for help. Because of their kindness and compassion, a sweet Pit Bull mix was saved on time.
