Thanks to thousands of volunteers driven by pure love for dogs, our four-legged friends in shelters get to see the light of day. Literally!
Every now and then, a shelter dog gets a day out with a volunteer to decompress and take a pause from the shelter environment.
Sometimes, it’s just a short walk in nature. Other times, it’s a field trip where a dog can meet new friends and even enjoy a delicious pup cup. And for the lucky ones, it’s a whole day with a sleepover!
Coco, a shelter pup from Arizona, was lucky enough to experience it all. However, on her recent outing, Coco’s reaction to being returned to the shelter was absolutely heartbreaking!
Tear-Jerking Moment Caught On Camera
Coco’s been in and out of the Arizona Humane Society since 2023. While friendly, sociable and an absolute cuddle bug, she still hasn’t found the right fit.
“At no fault of her own, Coco hasn’t found the right fit for her. She is an 11-year-old German Shepherd Dog and Chinese Sharpei mix with lots of life and energy still in her,” the Arizona shelter shared in a Facebook post.
Today, this German Shepherd Shar-Pei mix is eleven years old, and all she wants for herself is a family.
While still unlucky to get a second chance at life, Coco’s been the ultimate princess of her shelter. Thanks to her gentle nature and social skills, she’s been an ideal day-trip companion for volunteers.
Recently, a volunteer named Janna had the opportunity to take this girl out for the night, and it was an experience to remember!
In Janna’s TikTok post, Coco was shown enjoying a full day of nothing but love, treats, and cuddles.
Their very first stop was a drive-thru, where Coco was rewarded with a delicious pup cup, and she couldn’t be happier. Next, the two got to spend some time walking and playing in the yard.
However, Coco’s favorite activity of the day, as shown in the video, was catching up on some sleep in a peaceful home, far from the shelter noise and next to the hooman she trusted.
For that brief moment, it looked like Coco had all she had ever wanted. But the very next day, it was time to go back to the shelter.
In a TikTok update, Janna shared heartbreaking footage of Coco sitting in the back, with her spirits completely destroyed. With just a twenty-four-hour difference, Coco, who couldn’t take the smile off her face, now looked like she was crying. It was devastating!
“It was time to take your shelter dog back and it looked like she was crying,” Janna’s video reads.
Coco Deserves A Chance
Coco’s heartbreaking response to being returned to the shelter portrays her situation perfectly. While still being a well-behaved shelter dog, this strikingly beautiful dog longs for a home of her own, where she would be able to run, play, and rest freely.
Coco is a senior, but she has never been more enthusiastic about life. She’s friendly, affectionate and loves being the center of attention.
“She’s a very friendly girl who loves to be the center of attention and meet new people. She’s been on many field trips and was very well behaved. She’s house trained, loves car rides, and will join you for cuddles after a long day,” AHS concludes.
So far, Coco still hasn’t received an application. She’s still in the shelter, waiting for the right person to adopt her.
In the meantime, the volunteers will continue to cheer Coco up and shower her with love… possibly with more daily outings.
