New York Shelter Pit Bull Finds Healing And Love In The Arms Of A Woman Who Needed Him Too

Some dogs end up in shelters through no wrongdoing of their own.

One moment they’re cherished members of a family. The next, they’re left behind, confused and heartbroken, wondering what changed.

That’s exactly what happened to Mochi, a kind and gentle Pit Bull whose life was turned upside down when his family gave him up. The reason? One of their children developed an allergy.

Just like that, Mochi lost the only home he had ever known and found himself inside the cold walls of a shelter. Still, he held onto hope that someone would see him not just as a dog, but as a lifelong companion.

A Quiet Dog At The End Of The Row

Viveca, a compassionate woman from New York, had grown fond of Pit Bulls after spending time with her neighbor’s dog. She knew that when the moment felt right, she wanted to adopt one herself.

At the time, Viveca was struggling with depression and anxiety. She hoped that by giving a home to a dog in need, she might also find healing through their bond.

She visited Animal Care Centers in NYC, specifically looking for a silver Pit Bull.

Most of the dogs barked and tried to get her attention. But at the far end of the row sat Mochi, quiet and still.

He didn’t match the description she had in mind, so she initially passed him by. But when a shelter volunteer suggested she take him for a walk, she agreed and that walk changed everything.

After just a short time together, Viveca knew Mochi was the one. She brought him home and was amazed by his calm demeanor and perfect house manners. He was already trained and never had a single accident.

From the moment he arrived, Mochi soaked up the affection Viveca and her husband gave him. For the first time since being surrendered, he felt truly at home.

Their connection deepened with each passing day, forming a bond that words couldn’t fully capture.

“Our bond. It’s really indescribable like it’s magic that can only be felt,” Viveca told GeoBeats Animals.

Mochi became her anchor, helping her through difficult times. With him beside her, Viveca began to see the world differently.

“I can’t imagine my life without him because he is just my soul dog,” she added.

Growing Older With Grace And Love

As the years passed, white hairs began to appear on Mochi’s face. For Viveca, it was a bittersweet sight, a reminder that her beloved friend was growing older.

“He started to get white and at first, I was really sad that he was aging ‘cause you don’t wanna think about them ever getting to that day. But I saw a quote and it was like, there’s white on their face because you’ve kissed away the color over the years,” she shared.

Despite his gentle spirit, Mochi has faced unfair judgment simply because of his breed. During walks, some people have avoided him, assuming he was dangerous.

But Viveca knows the truth. She’s made it her mission to advocate for Pit Bulls and help others see their true nature.

Mochi doesn’t let the bias affect him. He focuses on enjoying life with his family in New York, soaking up every ounce of love.

He even has his own Instagram page, where he shares glimpses of his daily adventures and joyful moments.

Mochi, you are a beautiful soul and it’s a joy to see you living the life you were always meant to have.
