Arkansas Shelter Favorite Faces Adoption Barriers While Dreaming Of Life Beyond The Kennel

Hashbrown has no way of understanding that nearly two years in a shelter is not a reflection of who he is. That truth makes his story even more difficult to accept.

This loving Pittie mix checks every box you could hope for in a best friend. He’s gentle and playful, hardly ever barks, absolutely adores people, and is more than ready to shower affection on anyone willing to give him a chance.

But because of the Pitbull ban in Arkansas, he continues to be passed by, overlooked time after time. As he approaches the two year mark living behind kennel doors, the long stretch of waiting is beginning to weigh on his once bright spirit.

A Heart That Craves Connection

Hashbrown arrived at the Sherwood Humane Animal Shelter in Sherwood, Arkansas, years ago, and from day one, he has shared nothing but kindness with everyone he meets.

“He most likely gets overlooked because he is very quiet, doesn’t bark, he isn’t one to say ‘Hey! tail wag, tail wag, jump, jump look at me!’,” his adoption profile explains.

Unfortunately, his breed has created barriers. Restrictions on Pitbull-type dogs make many adopters hesitant, despite Hashbrown’s proven gentle nature.

While other dogs are whisked away to new homes and fresh starts, Hashbrown remains in his kennel, hoping someone will finally look past the stigma and see him for who he truly is.

His cheerful personality has not faded. He revels in affection, enjoys playtime, and makes friends easily.

Shelter staff call him the perfect example of loyalty and kindness.

“If we got to re-name Hashbrown we would name him Goodest because he is the goodest boy ever,” his profile adds.

Susan, a devoted volunteer, has spent countless hours with him and knows the depth of love he has to give.

Over 600 days and nights stuck in a kennel. Poor Hashbrown. It’s not fair at all! He needs a hero ASAP. If you live in a city that allows pitties and can open your heart and home to my buddy here who needs to be the only dog in the home, please DM me or reach out to @shasAdoptables. 🙏🐾🥹🫶😤 #hashbrownthedog #sherwoodanimalshelter #sherwoodarkansas #centralarkansas #pittiesoftiktok #rescuepittie #rescuedog #sheltervolunteer #shelterdog #adoptdontshop #rescuedismyfavoritebreed #fosteringsaveslives

To mark his 600th day in the shelter, she shared a video of Hashbrown resting quietly on his blanket, eyes full of longing as passersby walked past him.

Hope Refuses To Fade

The staff at Sherwood Humane have not given up on him. They believe there is a family out there who will finally recognize Hashbrown’s true nature: gentle, playful, and overflowing with love.

Each day in the shelter reminds everyone of how urgently he needs a forever home

While he is safe and cared for, no shelter can replace the comfort and security of a permanent family, especially after such a long wait.

Even so, Hashbrown remains hopeful. He is neutered, microchipped, and fully vaccinated. His perfect home would have a secure six-foot fence and a yard to run and play. He would thrive as the only pet but could live with a female dog if introduced carefully.

Hashbrown is ready. He just needs someone willing to g
