When Layla and Lola first came into their local shelter, the bonded sisters seemed to quietly decide that whatever happened next, they were going to face it together.
A family adopted them fairly quickly, and for a moment, it looked like their happy ending had arrived. Sadly, that happiness did not hold for long.
The two sisters were brought back to the shelter, not just once, but two more times. Each time they returned, it became even clearer that the steadiest thing in their world was each other. They leaned on that bond for comfort, confidence, and the feeling that they were not alone.
Then their story finally began to turn when Humans and Animals United (HAAU) heard about their situation and decided to help.
Rescue Steps In To Help

Rosa Fond, the founder of this Florida-based rescue organization, immediately took action to help the bonded pair.
She raised emergency funds to remove them from the shelter and began searching for a foster family that could care for both dogs together.
Fond’s compassion went beyond saving them from the shelter. She gave Layla and Lola the chance to start over.

When HAAU volunteers arrived to pick up the two sisters, their joy multiplied as they watched the dogs react with excitement.
“Seeing them leave the shelter [that] kept them safe until we arrived brings tears to our eyes. The girls have a new beginning, and this time, it will be a forever happily ever after!” HAAU wrote on Facebook.
Their emotional rescue was captured on video and shared online, showing the sisters wagging their tails and greeting their rescuers with happiness.
Afterward, the volunteers brought Layla and Lola to a veterinary clinic for a complete checkup. Once the vet confirmed that both were healthy, they were taken to HAAU’s rescue center to meet the other animals.
A Home That Fits Them Both
Since the pair shared a strong bond, they needed a foster home that could provide love and care for two.
“They are bonded. We would never [separate] them. They need [and] depend on each other. [It’s] the only way to do right by these girls,” HAAU wrote in a comment on Facebook.

Fortunately, a kind-hearted family stepped forward to foster both sisters. Layla and Lola quickly settled in and showed how happy they were to stay together.
“As promised, these girls have been kept together. Fully vetted, they are settling in perfectly at their foster home,” HAAU wrote on Facebook.

When the time comes, the sisters will find their forever home where they can live side by side.
For now, they are thriving in their foster home, surrounded by people who give them love, care, and safety.
“They are definitely lucky girls,” HAAU wrote in a Facebook comment.
