Brutus endured his first heartbreak when his owner abandoned him and moved to Tennessee.
The doggo was brought to the Humane Society of Central Illinois, a shelter located in Normal, Illinois.
Brutus kept expecting his owner to return for him, but as time passed, he had no choice but to accept that they were not coming back for him.
The shelter staff gave him love and tried to ease his worry and sadness.
The doggo loved spending time with them, but he couldn’t help craving for a home of his own.
He hoped that he would find a loving family who would never give up on him.
Brutus’ Long Wait
Day after day, Brutus waited in his shelter kennel for someone to fall in love with him and take him home.
Unfortunately, as time passed, Brutus realized that he was constantly overlooked and he couldn’t help feeling sad.
Wishing to draw attention to the dog and show how he felt when people passed him by, the shelter shared heartwrenching footage of Brutus as he waited in his kennel.
The video showed the dog as he tried to make eye contact with people passing by, but sadly, they failed to acknowledge him, let alone give him some cuddles.
Brutus couldn’t help feeling shut down and hurt. He spent more than a year at the Illinois shelter, and he started wondering if he would ever find someone who would choose him and make him a permanent member of their family.
When Brutus least expected it, his fortune changed for the better.
He stole the heart of Isabelle Maria de Dianous, a former EMT and clinical pharmacy technician who had recently shifted her career toward veterinary medicine.
Working as a veterinary assistant in Vet Med reinforced her decision to welcome a dog into her life.
Dianous spent more than two months looking for her new dog. She didn’t want to adopt a puppy because she knew they were more desirable.
The Doggo Finds True Love
She was searching for an older shelter dog who was overlooked. When she met Brutus, she knew that her search was over.
At the time, Brutus was the longest resident in the Humane Society of Central Illinois.
Dianous adopted him and brought him home.
When people found out that Brutus spent more than a year at the shelter, they asked Dianous why he waited for so long and whether something was wrong with him.
Brutus’ mom felt heartbroken because the doggo was seen as flawed. She knew that he had a big heart and that he deserved to be loved unconditionally.
Dianous wanted to make Brutus’ transition to his forever home as smooth as possible and the doggo showed her that he didn’t have anything to worry about.
From the very first night in his new home, Brutus was relaxed. He hopped on the bed, chewed a toy, and fell asleep shortly after the light went out.
The Forever Home He Always Wanted

He is a real snuggle bug. He loves cuddling with Dianous and loves everyone he meets.
And, just like that, Brutus changed a lonely corner of his kennel for a comfy bed at the home of his dreams. The doggo became more than a loving furry companion, and he was officially registered as an emotional support animal.
During one of their walks, Dianous began to feel sick so she stopped in her tracks and leaned over. When she stood up, she saw Brutus clinging to her.
Once Dianous looked at him, the doggo covered her face with kisses and nestled his head against his mom’s.
He waited with his mom, letting her know that he was there for her. When Dianous felt better, she walked them home.

Brutus found his happy ending, but sadly, many senior dogs continue waiting for someone to notice them and give them a chance to have a normal life.
I hope that this story will inspire people to give senior dogs a forever home because they deserve to feel loved and cherished.
