There’s no greater joy for a dog lover than seeing the pure happiness on a pup’s face. In Iowa, one long-term shelter resident has finally experienced that joy firsthand.
Faya, a sweet mixed-breed dog, spent more than 400 days at the Humane Society of Scott County before landing the home of her dreams. After over a year of waiting, this lovable dog finally found her perfect match and a place to truly call her own.
A Special Dog Deserving Her Own Home
For the staff at Humane Society of Scott County, Iowa, Faya has always been extraordinary. With her expressive brown eyes and striking multi-colored fur, she captured the hearts of everyone at the shelter.
“Faya has been at our shelter for exactly one year today. She is so wonderful with our staff and we love her to pieces, but she deserves a place to call her own,” the rescue wrote on Facebook.
Despite her sweet personality and gentle demeanor, Faya received very few adoption applications. She had become the shelter’s longest resident, recently hitting the 400-day milestone.
Yet Faya never lost her positive spirit. Every day, she greeted staff with a wagging tail and a radiant smile, spreading warmth and joy to everyone around her.
Then, one remarkable day, a life-changing moment occurred. Faya’s new dad walked into the shelter, and it was instantly clear they were meant to be together.
The staff could hardly contain their happiness as they watched Faya settle into the arms of her new owner. After a long journey, she had finally found her forever family.
“It’s official…Faya, our longest resident, has been adopted after 420 days of living in the shelter! To say our staff and volunteers were overjoyed is an understatement. We’ve given her so much love and care over the many months she was here and this is the moment we were all waiting for,” HSSC shared in a Facebook post.
Love At First Sight
Faya and her new dad were overjoyed to meet each other, and their connection was immediate. From that very first moment, it was clear they were a perfect match.
From this day forward, Faya will never have to worry about a home again. She now has a cozy lap for naps, a warm home to call her own, and a devoted friend by her side.
“She finally gets to sleep in a home of her own. We are so incredibly happy for her and her new best friend,” they added.
Faya’s touching adoption story quickly went viral online, sparking hundreds of reactions and heartfelt comments.
“I can’t tell who is happier in this photo! Faya or her new dad,” one Facebook user wrote.
“Look at how happy she is, she knows she’s been saved. And the smile on that adopter’s face says it all. They will be a team. Thank you for adopting,” another one added.
Faya is now living her best life, surrounded by love and care.
