No shelter dog should ever have to be euthanized and denied the chance to live a happy life, but sadly, it is the heartbreaking reality of many dogs who end up at overcrowded shelters.
A Boxer named Ginger used to have a home, but one day, her owners surrendered her and her brother, Juice, to the Lancaster Animal Care Center in California.
Once she found herself behind the kennel bars, Ginger felt heartbroken.
Unfortunately, due to a lack of space, both Ginger and Juice were placed on the euthanasia list.
Juice got adopted, but time was running out for Ginger, and there seemed to be no solution in sight. Is there a way to save her?
Ginger Enjoys Her Day Out

Evelyn Garces is a kind-hearted volunteer at the Lancaster Animal Care Center who spends time with animals who are scheduled for euthanasia.
The staff and volunteers have a practice of taking every shelter dog on a day out before they are put down, and they try to make it the best day of their lives.
Although Garces has volunteered at the shelter for a year, she felt heartbroken every time a dog was placed on the euthanasia list.
She was devastated to see the dogs leaving their kennels, excited to go for a walk, not knowing that it would be their last one.
When Garces took Ginger for a day out, the pup reminded her of her Boxer, Bravo. As she watched Ginger enjoying her walk and soaking up her cuddles, Garces knew she had to do whatever it took to save Ginger’s life.

She recorded a video of Ginger as she enjoyed her last day and posted it on her TikTok.
“She needs an exit plan NOW,” Garces wrote in the caption of the clip.
It didn’t take long for the heartbreaking video to spread across the internet. Everyone was deeply moved by Ginger’s story and hoped that she would be saved.
The shelter gave Ginger a one-day extension in order to see whether someone would save her and give her a forever home.
Fortunately, that was exactly what happened.
The Pup Gets A Second Chance

A kind woman who saw Ginger’s story on TikTok fell in love with her and reached out to the shelter, saying that she wanted to adopt her.
The woman couldn’t drive to the Los Angeles shelter to pick Ginger up, so Garces found a solution. She asked a shelter volunteer named Emily to transport the pup to her forever home.
Emily was thrilled to help, and she promised to collect Ginger the next morning.
The pup was spared from euthanasia that morning. Emily arrived and took Ginger to her forever home.
Garces posted another video of Ginger on TikTok, honoring her rescue.

The pup loves her new home, and she seems like a different dog. She receives a lot of love, and her personality is starting to shine through.
Ginger feels happy because her life was spared, and she received a second shot at happiness. She never has to worry about her future. From now on, she will only know unconditional love.
