Watching a dog grow old in a shelter is truly heartbreaking. You can’t help but wonder how their lives might have been different if someone had given them a chance.
Luna, a gentle Pittie mix, is one of those dogs.
Saved from the euthanasia list, this lovely girl spent most of her life in a Kansas rescue, longing for a family of her own. Sadly, despite being adopted by five different people, she was always returned…and her heart broke each time.
Five Different Reasons
Luna’s resilience is beyond words.
This brave girl survived the euthanasia list after the kind people of Always & Furever Midwest Animal Sanctuary in Kansas had given her a place to stay. Ever since that moment, she’s been a proud member of the rescue, even though she was intended to find a forever home.
To make things even more heartbreaking, Luna had a few shots at happiness. But each time, people failed her for some reason.
“She’s been with us since the beginning — 7 years ago— and while she’s been adopted a few times, she’s always found her way back to us,” the Kansas rescue shared in a Facebook post.
Her first family was her trainers who helped her decompress and learn how to socialize. Sadly, after starting their own family, they decided to surrender her to the same shelter she came from.
The second time, Luna was returned because of her food and pollen allergies. As a dog with a strict diet and skin care, she was too much for her adopters. So, they returned her, too.
Three more adoption fails included fear of the vet, reactivity, and a broken promise.
Every time, the result was the same: Luna was back in her well-known rescue facility, with her heart broken.
Despite being a sweet senior (now nine years old) who is affectionate, loyal, and devoted to the people she loves, she still struggles to find a suitable home. And yet, Luna has never stopped hoping.
Still Hoping
One thing is for sure: Luna’s caregivers will never give up on her. She’s a sweetheart of the rescue and to see her wag her tail and request cuddles is too priceless to let her down.
She spends her days with her best bud in the world, Copper, who isn’t available for adoption.
“Her best friend is Copper, our sanctuary pup who will never leave us. He is hers, and she is his, and together they bring light to our days,” the rescue wrote in the post.
While Copper is sure to stay at the rescue, Luna definitely longs for a place of her own.
“All she wants is a place to belong. We watched Luna go from a sweet, young pup…
to a beautiful senior with soulful eyes and a heart that still believes in love,” Always & Furever stated in another post.
According to her rescuers, she is extremely calm, well-behaved, and acts like a baby. She has seasonal allergies and needs an adopter who knows she needs special medical care.
Hopefully, she’ll get to spend her golden years in a loving home, finally settled with someone who truly understands her.
