There is real nobility in choosing to become a dog rescuer. The work demands grit, stamina, and deep patience, and it is certainly not for everyone.
Honestly, I do not think I would be a good fit to do rescues. I adore our furry companions, yet I lack the resilience and steady patience this role so often requires.
If only more people recognized that, the world would be a kinder place. Shockingly, some shelters chase profit and go out of their way not to help vulnerable animals at all.
Plenty accept dogs, then neglect them entirely until they can move them along, treating living beings like items to be shifted. That is exactly what we are covering in today’s story.
Rescuers Left Stunned

When a group called Saving Gizmo’s Friends received a tip about a ‘fake’ rescue in California, where dogs were being neglected, Cassandra Mann stepped in to respond.
She is the founder of Saving Gizmo’s Friends, and she wanted to help if the pups were in serious condition and needed immediate care.
So she contacted animal control in California and asked them to check the site to confirm whether the report was true and to assess the situation.
Officers found many dogs at the house in California, and at first it did not look like they were abused, which left the team uncertain and confused.

Mann then told them to check the garage, so they did. When the door opened, the officers were visibly shocked by what they saw inside that dark space.
The odor inside was awful, and the pups were malnourished and neglected. It was dark, they could barely see, and there were so many crammed together.
Several had wounds on their bodies, and one dog tried to gnaw his cage in desperation, so the poor pup suffered wiring injuries that made everything worse.
There Is More Work Ahead

The scene was absolutely horrific. I cannot begin to say how deeply sad it is that they ended up there, hoping for a better life.
And yet, their ‘rescuer’ chose to treat them this way. I do not understand the people who do things like this, not then and not now.
By then the situation was clear. The dogs needed help, so Saving Gizmo’s Friends offered to take many of them into their care.
In total they saved about 23 dogs and provided the treatment they had desperately needed all along. It cost about $50,000 to care for them, and the rescuers covered it themselves without hesitation.

However, the problem was not solved. Around 17 dogs were still stuck there, and animal control could not remove them all without a warrant.
Nevertheless, the kind team from Saving Gizmo’s Friends will do their very best to rescue every one.
For the dogs who were saved, the goal is to let them heal so the rescuers can find them a home, and I have no doubt they will succeed when the time is right.
