Most people react with surprise when they see a wild animal in their neighborhood or on the road. You just don’t expect to see them there.
However, this can be a sign that something is wrong. Either the animal wandered too far from its habitat, or it was injured and couldn’t return home.
While not that common, situations like this still happen, and most people just choose to ignore them rather than call for help.
In this story, a kind man named Mr. Beasley was just driving on a highway when he spotted something that left him completely in shock.
It’s A Raccoon
When Mr. Beasley stopped his car on the side, he realized that the motionless animal was actually a raccoon, and it shocked him.
He quickly realized that the poor animal was injured and would need medical intervention. So without wasting a moment, he called Evelyn’s Wildlife Refuge (EWR) in Virginia.
They told him that they were on their way. In the meantime, the kind man stayed with the injured animal to make sure nothing bad happened.
When the rescuers got there, they took the injured raccoon and drove her straight back to their headquarters. They named her Beasley, after her rescuer.
After a thorough medical examination, they concluded that she was likely hit by a car. One of her eyes was seriously damaged, and she had a broken arm.
They also noticed that she couldn’t stand on her own, so she will need some serious rehabilitation before they can let her back out in the wild.
First, they gave her some painkillers that can also help reduce the risk of infections. Things were looking up for Beasley, and then the rescuers noticed something odd.
Well, This Was An Unexpected Surprise
She was starting to grow, or rather, her belly was getting bigger. The Virginia rescuers gave her an ultrasound, but it didn’t reveal anything at the time.
So, they dropped the issue, but about a month later, she gave birth to three beautiful babies. The rescuers wrote in a post: “When she first came in, we had a sonogram done, but unfortunately, the pregnancy was so early. We did not detect her being pregnant.”
Nobody really expected this to happen, but at least it happened while she was in their care. It’s extremely fortunate that things turned out the way they did.
Considering how things happened, the rescuers did not have time to move the mama into an outdoor enclosure where she would feel more comfortable, so they tried after she had the babies.
They placed them in a crate and then moved them outside where they could enjoy their time and explore. The rescuers are still monitoring them all the time, so they are safe.
The rescuers realized that the raccoon family had settled in well, and things were looking up. There is very little chance that they will return to the wild soon because they still need help.
However, that is not a big problem because the rescuers will do their best to make sure that this beautiful family gets the second chance they deserve.
