When Nina Love, founder of The Black Thornberry, an animal rescue located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, got a call about an unidentified furry creature seen wandering in the woods, she immediately set out to investigate.
As soon as she arrived, she caught sight of the animal and quickly realized it was a frightened dog wary of humans.
Love didn’t want to startle the pup, so she and her team kept a safe distance. To monitor her movements, they decided to install trail cameras.
Dog Finally Brought To Safety
Although Love usually avoids using traps, she believed it was the right decision in this case. With help from the cameras, she identified the area where the dog often appeared and placed the trap accordingly.
“I wanted to provide a safe place for her and a good food source, so I set the trap. I tend to not want to use a trap. [But] I thought for her safety the trap would be the best situation,” Love told The Dodo.
Though the dog remained fearful, Love stayed committed to helping her. After a full week, the dog finally stepped into the crate.
When Love saw the dog safely inside, she was overwhelmed with joy and could barely hold back her tears.
The dog trembled with uncertainty, unsure of what was happening.
As Love approached and spoke gently to her, the dog began to calm down.
She noticed the pup had on two collars, which struck her as odd. Hoping to identify her, Love shared the dog’s photo online and asked if anyone recognized her.
Soon after, a friend saw the post and immediately thought of a family who had been searching for their missing dog for two months. She reached out to Love to share her thoughts.
After comparing the missing dog’s photo with the one they had just rescued, they saw it was a clear match.
Love contacted the family and gave them the wonderful news.
She learned that the dog’s name was Hannah, and her family had been devastated since she vanished from a local park.
Love took Hannah to the vet for an exam and a microchip scan, which confirmed her owner was Ashley.
A Joyful Homecoming
Love brought Hannah home for a long-awaited reunion with her mom.
Ashley was thrilled to see Hannah again. She scooped her up and carried her inside, full of gratitude toward Love for reuniting them.
Hannah cuddled up to Ashley and gave her sweet kisses.
Ashley had done everything she could to find Hannah, visiting shelters, hanging flyers, and searching constantly, but nothing had worked.
Ashley had adopted Hannah from a shelter in South Carolina, and when she first arrived in her forever home, she was extremely timid.
But just two days after joining her new family, Hannah disappeared.
Though she was relieved to be home, Hannah still needed time to relax and feel secure again.
With constant affection from her mom and family, Hannah slowly began to heal. Ashley was thrilled when she heard her bark again.
Thanks to their support, Hannah was able to move past her fear and become the joyful dog she was always meant to be.
Now, Hannah is thriving. She spends her days playing with her canine siblings and snuggling with her family.
