Thanks to giant-hearted rescuers who dedicate their lives to saving dogs, many of these four-legged furballs end up having homes.
For Donna Lochmann, of Stray Rescue of St. Louis, Missouri, there has been only one goal in her impressive dog-saving career – to help as many of them as possible!
Being the Chief Life-Saving Officer, Donna has helped countless canines find their furever homes all over the country, and now was the time for another rescue!
This time, however, it was special! Here’s why…
Here Comes The Furriest Surprise
Lochmann and the SRSL team have been trying to save Hulu, the female stray dog that had been wandering the streets for quite some time.
This timid girl was all skin and bones and in desperate need of help. The problem, however, was that she was almost impossible to catch!
Hulu was a nursing mom that was taking care of her newborn puppies somewhere nearby. She did a great job hiding them from the harsh conditions and danger, but Donna and the team found it extremely hard to track them down. Until, one day, it happened!
They set a humane trap filled with delicious treats for Hulu. After hours of waiting, this doggo mom finally came in and was successfully saved.
A few moments later, Donna and her fellow volunteer heard crying noises from one of the abandoned houses in the neighborhood. When they took a closer look at the crawl space under the house, they were stunned by what they found!
There was a big litter of puppies cuddled up next to each other on a pile. They were only a few days open and extremely tiny, but they all seemed to be in excellent health.
Donna immediately sprung into action and crawled inside a small space to reach the pups. Once she got a little closer, she was shocked to count ten tiny babies!
“A mom and 10 puppies have been rescued from the mean streets. Although full of milk, she was skin and bones. You’ll never believe where we found her puppies,” Stray Rescue of St. Louis wrote in a Facebook post.
The Happily Ever After
After a thorough search and rescue, the pups were successfully transferred to the facility. The SRSL team immediately placed the pups in a comfy room together with their mom.
Hulu was such a great and gentle momma right from the start. She took care of her babies around the clock, fed them, and made sure to keep them warm.
The whole team was extremely proud of Hulu and her amazing parenting skills. Even though she didn’t have proper resources nor a shelter above her head, she managed to keep her babies safe.
And, now they will never, ever have to worry about being on the street again!
Months after her rescue, Hulu and her family started a new life in loving homes. This doggo mom found a beautiful forever home with a woman named Debbie, and her family.
She has spent years now enjoying a spacious house and endless adventures in a big family. Together with her housemates, Hulu’s every day is filled with smiles and cuddles, as it always should’ve been.
Her new mom shared a memory, thanking Donna for giving her loving girl a chance. “My Hulu was rescued three years ago. She is a really funny quirky dog. Thank you Donna Lochmann for always saying yes to a rescue,” Debbi wrote on Facebook.
Thanks to Donna and her incredible teammates, Hulu and her babies got a new chance at life. And, they couldn’t be happier!
