Donna Lochmann and her colleagues at a Missouri rescue are no strangers to complicated rescues. So, when the phone rang the other day about a fearful animal hiding in bushes near a highway with busy traffic, the team immediately rushed to the scene.
Donna and Kristen searched the area for a while. They knew the furry friend they had been informed about couldn’t be far.
Then, just a few moments later, they spotted a tiny head peeking out from the grass.
He Had Nowhere To Go
Donna and Kristen, the volunteers at Stray Rescue of St. Louis, immediately stopped in their tracks. A terrified, black pup was staring right at them, looking completely helpless and scared of the traffic.
With all the trucks passing by, he cowered in the grass a little more. In a way, it was as if he had been trying to escape this harrowing situation, but couldn’t find a way out. Lucky for him, Donna and Kristen knew just the way!
After a few brief moments of introduction, the rescuers slowly approached the pup. They knew, given his fear, that his trust would probably be hard to gain, so they didn’t want to rush things.
But as it turned out, the dog, later named Jet, had already put all his trust in them. He warmed up to the presence of his saviors immediately, as if he knew they were here to help.
“We just rescued Jet from a busy highway, he was hunkered down and shaking, not knowing where to go,” shared the Missouri rescue in a Facebook post.
The next thing he knew was a comfy back seat of the car and a drive to a new life. The moment couldn’t be sweeter!
Thanks to the gentle approach of his saviors, it didn’t take long for Jet to show his true colors. He was a friendly, affectionate pup eager to shower everyone with love. His nature was absolutely adorable.
Sadly, Jet’s story took a heartbreaking turn in the rescue facility. Upon scanning his microchip, the rescuers realized he had a family before… a family who didn’t want him anymore.
They informed the rescue that they had already given Jet away to someone else, and didn’t want him back.
“We thought we would reunite him with worried and ecstatic owners, but of course when we called, they said they had given him away to someone,” wrote SRSL in an update post.
New Life Chapter
Jet’s abandonment wasn’t the reason for the rescue team to stop searching for the best solution. According to Jet’s behavior, his caregivers realized this pup didn’t do well in the crowded environment.
After only a few days, Jet was taken in by a foster family — and he couldn’t be happier!
Now, this stunning pup will finally have the space to decompress and learn all about life in a family. So far, he has excellent house manners and is a big-time cuddler.
Jet loves to play, too! He’s eager to explore the world and embark on new adventures. Right now, all he needs is a suitable adopter to give him a chance. His rescuers are actively working on finding this boy the best home possible.
“We accepted beautiful Jet into our Stray Rescue family and promised him we’ll find a family for him who will love, adore, and respect him for his entire life! He is 1.5 years old, 56 pounds, and so kind,” concluded the rescue.
