I can only imagine the things dog rescuers have to see on a daily basis. There are many uncomfortable situations that need to be dealt with.
Owners will either surrender dogs in horrible conditions, or be forced to, which will lead to more heartbreak for both the owners and the rescuers.
It’s never easy seeing an incredibly sweet dog being left behind without understanding why his human parents left him there.
The situation in this story is even more unique. The North Carolina owners surrendered a dog with a wedding ring on her collar and it shocked everyone working at Forgotten, Now Family Rescue.
Why Was She Abandoned With A Ring?
When the rescuers first encountered this situation, they were completely confused. Someone abandoned their dog at the shelter, but there was no explanation.
The wedding ring on a collar made it even stranger because why would they surrender the pup with that? There were just so many questions, but very few answers.
The only thing the North Carolina rescuers knew for sure was that the owners “did not want her anymore” and that was heartbreaking.
This dog, named Lotus, had her life changed forever in that moment, and she still wasn’t able to grasp this situation. She was a bit timid, but very warm around her rescuers.
After taking her in, the kind rescuers made sure she was comfortable before starting to look for a new home for her.
Surprisingly, many adoption applications came in immediately and the rescuers were surprised to learn that Lotus won’t have to spend so much time in the shelter.
They took her to meet her new owners and it was clear from the very beginning that she would get along with them.
Despite going through a serious heartbreak, her story took a turn for the better and she is living a good life now.
Many Responses On Instagram
After the rescuers posted Lotus’ story on their instagram page, the outreach was just incredible and so many people reached out and showed their support.
One person commented: “I hope the person who surrendered her didn’t steal her from an ex husband or ex wife. I’ve seen so many stories of people looking for their dogs who were taken and surrendered without their knowledge/consent.”
Thankfully, this was not the case, as the rescue responded shortly after and confirmed that the owner was verified.
Another person said: “Who could look at that face and give her up! She’s precious!”
I know it’s heartbreaking, but we don’t really know the details behind Lotus’ surrender. It’s possible that it was the only choice for the owners, or maybe they just didn’t want her anymore.
Lastly, somebody commented: “These poor things are so confused when they get dumped and forgotten.”
Yeah, seeing the confusion on their faces when they get separated from their humans is always heartbreaking. The silver lining is that Lotus at least gets a new chance now and she will never be abandoned again.
