Nothing shatters a dog’s spirit quite like being cast aside by the family that once loved her.
Picture this: you’ve spent your entire life in a warm home, surrounded by people who adored you and then, suddenly, that all vanishes.
Not only do you lose your comfort and security, but the moment you set paw on the cold, unfamiliar pavement, your world becomes a nightmare as you begin life as a stray.
That was Lucy’s reality: a senior Labrador whose days were consumed by evading humans and dodging traps. Fearful and, above all, heartbroken…until a compassionate stranger decided to step in.
Scared And Heartbroken
One afternoon in Mississippi, Lane Bounds was leaving her gym when she spotted Lucy alone in the parking lot. Lane softly called to her, but Lucy bolted.
A few days later, Lane found Lucy again. This time, she curled up beside a local bank, but Lucy’s past trauma kept her from trusting.
“Leaving the gym, I noticed an old stray in the parking lot. Days later, I found her sleeping in the bushes at a local bank,” Lane wrote in the post called “Lucy’s story.”
Determined to help, Lane sprang into action: she made online appeals asking about Lucy, and she set humane traps baited with food, without success. Lucy was too clever and too frightened.
“I made posts looking for her owners with no luck. She outsmarted all traps, but I just knew I had to help her,” Lane continued in her post.
Then Lane tried a new strategy. One afternoon, she brought her own dog, Delta, to the spot, hoping a friendly canine might lure Lucy out of hiding. And it did!
Lucy emerged from the shadows to greet Delta and, over the next few days, let Lane hand-feed her and even climb into the car.
The rest, as they say, is history!
Lane welcomed Lucy into her home, and her family opened their hearts to the timid Lab. At the vet, Lane discovered that Lucy once belonged to someone else.
She reached out to Lucy’s former family to explain what had happened, but they declined to reunite. That rejection only strengthened Lane’s resolve to keep her.
Lucy was brought in as a foster, given gentle care and patience to heal fully.
Incredible Transformation
Watching Lucy blossom in mere weeks was incredibly rewarding. She soon warmed up to every member of the household and quickly became their beloved companion.
Lucy adored her Mom and Dad, bonded with Delta, and delighted her human siblings. She savored cozy naps, embraced cuddles, and joined family outings. It became obvious: Lucy was meant to stay forever.
“After over a week of trying to trap and rescue this girl, and now spending two months fostering her with amazing potential offers for her betterment, I just could not imagine Lady Lucy being anywhere else than here with us,” Lane stated on Facebook.
Now, Lucy thrives. Lane and her family continue helping her overcome past trauma, and Lucy responds with boundless loyalty and affection.
“Everyday we try to give her a life and love that helps heal whatever went wrong in her past, and I’m still not sure how we ever lived without each other. Lu is now a healthy 75+ pounds and by far, the most loyal creature I’ve ever met,” Lucy’s mom added.
After endless sleepless nights and terrifying days on Mississippi’s streets, Lucy finally found her perfect home.
