Few things can break my heart more than seeing a starving puppy left alone with no way to help himself.
So many people pass by with the chance to give food, water, or call for help, but they choose not to.
Now and then, someone kind will step up, give that pup what he needs, and make the call that saves his life. We all should try to be like them.
This is the story of a little dog who was wasting away in a narrow alley until rescuers showed up to help.
The Puppy’s Suffering Broke Their Hearts
When Stray Rescue of St. Louis got the call about a puppy barely clinging to life in an alley, they rushed out right away.
They drove quickly to the spot where he had been seen, and it didn’t take long before they found him.
The sight of him was shocking. He was nothing but skin and bones. He had barely started life and was already going through such suffering. No animal deserves that.
As the rescuers moved closer, he wagged his tail and came to greet them with trust.
Then he paused and returned to his bowl as if to show them how hungry he was and how badly he needed food.
One rescuer stroked his fur and, overwhelmed, the little dog began to cry from sheer exhaustion and relief.
Indy Finally Finds Safety And Comfort

The scene was devastating and showed just how much he had endured on his own.
The rescuers promised to get him to safety and give him the fresh start he needed. They wasted no time.
They gently lifted the puppy, now named Indy, and drove him straight to the shelter in St. Louis. There, he received a medical checkup and treatment for anything that might be wrong.
At last, he had food and water, and he gratefully enjoyed a real meal.

Next came the search for a family. They decided to start by placing him in foster care so he could learn what it felt like to live in a home.
In foster care, Indy discovered joy. He played, ran in the yard, explored, and enjoyed every simple moment.
He turned out to be the sweetest little dog who only needed a chance to live, and thanks to his rescuers, he finally had it. One phone call was all it took to change his life.
