Missouri Rescuers Find Injured Pup Lying On Highway, Only To See Her Friend Standing Guard

Loyalty. It’s an unavoidable description of our four-legged friends, don’t you think?

If you’ve ever owned one, you know exactly what I’m talking about. They’re not just lovable, playful, and a delight to look at. If you’re their person, they will follow you to the ends of the earth, no doubt about that.

But, here’s an even better part: dogs aren’t just loyal to their owners. They also stay true to their furry buddies and the siblings they live with… their “shared doggo bed partners in crime.”

Recently, a Pittie named Diamond exemplified the perfect loyal buddy when she was found on a dangerous highway protecting her sister, Hope. Their rescue story truly warmed the hearts of the entire internet!

She Didn’t Want To Leave Her Side

When the rescuers at Stray Rescue of St. Louis in Missouri saw the post about an injured dog on a local Facebook group, they immediately rushed into action.

As it turned out, the dog, Hope, probably hit by a car, lay injured on the side of a dangerous highway. She wasn’t alone, though.

“We just picked up two dogs – one lying on Hwy 70 at the Bircher exit after being struck, and her friend who won’t leave her side… They appear to be in good shape, so we’re sure someone loves them and is looking for them,” the Missouri rescue wrote in a Facebook post.

A gray and white Pittie named Diamond was there, too, standing guard over her sister.

What stunned the rescuers most was the fact that both dogs were in quite good condition (other than being hit by a car). They weren’t malnourished, their coats were in excellent shape, and they were comfortable around people, meaning only one thing – they definitely had a family!

Upon bringing them to the facility, the rescue team immediately checked them for a microchip. Unfortunately, both of them had outdated information about their owners.

In the meantime, the team carefully examined Hope. After receiving a full checkup, the vets determined her situation was better than expected. All she needed was to have her leg stitched up.

The rescuers didn’t want to give up. They kept on looking for the dogs’ owners via social media until, finally, someone reached out to them.

As it turned out, Hope and Diamond’s parents were looking for them all this time – and now they finally found out where they were.

Happy Reunion

Later that day, the owners rushed to the SRSL facility, only to have the sweetest reunion with their pups. According to them, the dogs accidentally escaped their home, and when they were found, they were already over a mile away.

“They rushed here the moment we got in contact with them, they’ve been worried sick. They took their girl home and will be back later today for their other girl,” the rescue concluded in an update post.

The family picked up Diamond, a proud sister who refused to leave Hope at the mercy of the highway. As her sister still needed a few hours to recover, the owners agreed to return for her later that night.

While Diamond and Hope’s story is a great reminder to always check if your microchip info is up to date, it also serves as a true testament to dogs’ loyalty. Stay safe, girls, and have a happy life!
