Love is often all a dog needs to feel safe and happy. As pet parents, we live for the sight of their wagging tails and bright eyes, knowing they trust us completely.
But sadly, not every dog gets that kind of love. Some are betrayed by the very people who promised to care for them.
That’s what happened to a tiny puppy named Comfort, who was just three months old when her family abandoned her without a second thought.
A kind passerby saw the heartbreaking moment and immediately stepped in, bringing the scared little dog to a shelter in Los Angeles, California.
Feeling confused and betrayed, Comfort curled up in the corner of her kennel, trembling with fear.
The Hardest Days Of Her Young Life

When the shelter took Comfort in, staff noticed she was severely underweight, dehydrated, and covered in fleas. Her body told a story of neglect, but her eyes showed even deeper pain.
She refused to eat, avoided eye contact, and flinched whenever someone tried to approach her. The shelter workers could see she was completely shut down, terrified of what might happen next.
Ashley Pittman, a volunteer at the Los Angeles shelter and with A Purposeful Rescue, couldn’t stand to see her suffer. Hoping to find help, she posted a video of Comfort on her Instagram page.
That clip was soon shared on TikTok, where it went viral. One viewer, who happened to be an experienced foster, saw the video and reached out to Pittman right away.
Within hours, arrangements were made for Comfort to leave the shelter and join A Purposeful Rescue’s foster program.
Her new foster mom wasted no time bringing her home, determined to help the frightened puppy begin her journey toward healing and happiness.
A New Beginning In A Safe Home

Comfort’s first few days in foster care were difficult. She was anxious and overwhelmed, often whimpering softly as she hid beneath the bed. Her foster mom knew the little dog needed patience, quiet, and gentle reassurance.
She gave Comfort time to adjust, sitting nearby and speaking softly to let her know she was safe. Slowly but surely, the trembling subsided.
As the days passed, Comfort began to peek out more often, exploring her surroundings and responding to affection. Her fearful eyes started to shine again, filled now with curiosity and hope instead of fear.
Her foster mom was thrilled to see the progress. “She’s finally starting to relax,” she shared, smiling as Comfort wagged her tail for the first time.

Once Comfort feels fully secure, she will be ready to look for her forever family: one that will love her unconditionally and never let her down again.
Everyone at A Purposeful Rescue believes that a special family is out there, waiting for her. And when they find her, Comfort will finally know what it means to be safe, loved, and home for good.
