When we take a closer look at the surroundings while walking down the street, we can see numerous heartbreaking sights — from homeless people to abused and abandoned dogs and other animals.
Although these scenes can sometimes seem shocking to ordinary people, those same scenes are part of everyday life for rescuers and humanitarians.
Rescuers from Stockton, California face this kind of challenge almost every day as they regularly visit homeless encampments in the city, building a relationship with people who live there to help the animals who also found their shelter there.
So, one day, a homeless woman pointed out to them a bald dog that was in a terrible state, and to make matters worse, the poor pooch had writing on her body.
Washing Away Her Past
When the rescuers from Hungry Tailz Rescue, a non-profit organization located in Stockton, California, saw the bald puppy who lived in one of the homeless encampments, they were totally shocked and heartbroken.
However, according to the Hungry Tailz’s Facebook post, what shocked them even more was the writing on her body. Someone cruelly wrote words all over her body and face, making this sight even more heartwrenching.
These great rescuers did not wait a moment but immediately took her to the veterinary clinic so that they could examine her. The vet found out that Naya, as the dog was called, was suffering from demodectic mange, a health issue caused by microscopic mites.
Because of that, she was provided with an oral flea and tick treatment that would eventually destroy the mites, and she was expected to fully recover. According to Hungry Tailz’s post, “Despite everything, she remains very sweet and playful.”
Finally, they gave her a medicated bath that would, aside from dirt on her body, also wash away her sad past.
Her New Beginning
While Naya was recovering and resting, Hungry Tailz Rescue staff went into action in an attempt to find a home for this dog.
To their delight and all the good people who participated in her rescue, they did not need to wait for long for that moment to come. Namely, according to an update Hungry Tailz posted just a few days later, an “amazing family” started fostering Naya as she continued to heal.
“Thankfully, we found an amazing family to foster Naya long-term until she heals. She is very sweet and affectionate,” they wrote in the video caption.
Aside from thanking the family who provided Naya with a foster home, the rescue employees also expressed their gratitude “to the ladies who sheltered Naya while they could barely provide for themselves.”
In addition to the happy ending, that is perhaps the most wonderful part of this story — the fact that these people helped another being in need although they themselves were going through their darkest times.
That is the true power of love and humanity.
