Some dogs never really get a fair chance at life. Because of careless and irresponsible breeding, too many puppies end up abandoned on the streets, and most of them don’t survive.
One such heartbreaking case happened in California, where a backyard breeder heartlessly discarded an entire litter of puppies.
When a woman received a call about one of the pups, just three days old, she froze. The whole litter was clinging desperately to life, and they needed urgent help.
Fighting To Survive Since Day One
That call reached Clanay Reza, a compassionate independent rescuer from California. The breeder’s neighbor reached out, begging for help.
By the time she arrived, the puppies were barely moving, trying to stay alive beneath their mother who had tragically bled to death.
Among them was a tiny pup, later named Lucky, the smallest of them all, no bigger than a hamster.
Though his odds were grim, Clanay refused to give up. She began feeding him formula every twenty minutes, sacrificing her sleep to keep him alive.
“I never knew if tomorrow was promised for him. Lucky’s first 8 weeks of life I hardly ever slept. I would stay up watching him making sure he was still alive and breathing.” Clanay shared on Instagram.
Sadly, Lucky’s siblings didn’t make it. He was the only survivor, clinging to life with the help of his rescuer.
Lots Of Sleepless Nights
Weeks later, Lucky was stronger, but his challenges weren’t over. As his eyes opened, he was diagnosed with a yeast infection and a corneal ulcer, and he ultimately lost one eye.
“We found out he was blind from one eye and actually had a puncture in his eye and a corneal ulcer. As he got older the ulcer and puncture grew and started causing him pain so at 4 months old we removed his eye.” Clanay explained.
At just ten weeks old, Lucky was also diagnosed with albinism, the result of inbreeding and a recessive gene.
The first year of his life was one obstacle after another, losing his mom, his siblings, and battling serious medical issues. But through it all, he never gave up.
“He’s had a rollercoaster of a life his first year but I am thankful for all the bumps in the road we had with him. They just made my love for him grow stronger.” said Clanay.
Lucky – The Quirkiest Family Member
Fast forward to today, and Lucky is thriving.
After enduring so much, he’s now eight years old, full of life, and adored by his family. With his quirky looks, fluffy coat, and loving personality, he’s the most cherished member of the household, and he knows it!
Lucky’s unbreakable spirit transformed him into a joyful, confident pup. He adores kids, loves snuggles, and has a playful, goofy side that makes him the “pawfect” companion.
Recently, he welcomed a new baby sister into the family, and she’s become his world. He follows her everywhere and naps beside her, watching over her like the protective big brother he’s always wanted to be.
From a fragile, discarded pup with no chance of survival to a beloved family dog, Lucky’s journey is nothing short of miraculous. Today, he truly is the luckiest dog on Earth.
