Cat Ouellette, a volunteer at Room 8 Memorial Cat Foundation, a rescue located in Jurupa Valley, arrived at the facility that night to feed kitties in need of constant care and make sure they were doing well.
By the time she finished, it was already 4 or 5 a.m. Ouellette settled into the driver’s seat and was ready to go home.
All of a sudden, she got a strange feeling and decided to return to the rescue. She wanted to double-check whether everything was alright with the kitties.
At the time, she was unaware of the surprise she would soon discover.
The Mysterious Box
When Ouellette got out of the car, she saw a mysterious box on the ground. It was sealed with tape and placed near the passenger side of her car. The kind volunteer was shocked.
She noticed that there was a note left on top of the box, which clarified the mystery.
It turned out that the box contained a litter of kittens. The person who left them at the shelter grounds was the one who found them abandoned.
They explained that they couldn’t take the kittens home because they had dogs.
Although the rescue staff often finds abandoned boxes outside the facility, encountering one in the middle of the night was shocking.
“People try to do their best, but we try to do our best, too. I’d rather see it there than by a trash can,” Ouellette told The Dodo.
The giant-hearted volunteer opened the box in order to help the kittens. Her heart sank when she realized that one of the furbabies crossed the rainbow bridge.
Ouellette had no time to lose and she sprang into action. She brought the seven puppies into the rescue, fed them and examined them.
The kittens loved the formula that Ouellette prepared for them. They had been starving.
Kittens Receive A Ton Of Love
Ouellette and the other volunteers at the California rescue began taking care of the kittens.
As the kittens thrived day by day, they revealed their sweet personalities and made the staff fall in love with them.
The kittens’ journey highlights the importance of spaying, neutering, and TNR (trap-neuter-return). They give stray cats a better future and prevent unnecessary suffering.
“This could have been prevented if we just got this mom fixed. That’s where the problem starts,” Ouellette added.
Ouellette enjoys playing with the kittens and showering them with love.
The sweet furbabies will start searching for their happy endings in three months, after they are spayed and neutered and receive their vaccines.
I’m certain that they will find a great home where they will know every day how loved they are.
