When we see an animal in need, our first instinct is to help them. Right? Well, that might not be the case for a lot of people. In fact, I would argue that most people don’t care.
Regardless of what animal it is, I feel like it is our duty to always give an injured or starving animal the help that they need so they can continue living.
Now, if you are helping wildlife, then it’s important to be careful because you never know what might happen. Calling rescuers to help is always the best option.
The best example of this is a case from Florida where some residents saw a mysterious animal walking through their neighborhood with a jar on its head. After seeing this, they immediately called for help.
Lea Comes To The Rescue
After Lea Elise Haverstock saw a post about a ‘black dog’ who was walking around with a jar on its head, she knew that she had to help him right away.
Even though Lea always had suspicions that the animal was in fact not a dog, she decided to join the search regardless. The poor animal needed help, as it was struggling to breathe or eat.
Lea told The Dodo: “There was a post that an emaciated black ‘dog’ was loose with a glass jar on its head. I came out to join that search.”
Through the pictures, it was clearly visible that the animal was emaciated and it was likely a long time before it had its last meal. It wouldn’t have held out much longer, so they needed to find it.
Lea continues by saying: “I was distressed knowing this animal, whatever it was, had a jar on its head and could not eat.”
After finally catching a glimpse of the animal from afar, an officer from Pasco County Animal Services realized what it really was.
It was a black coyote. Even though they are sparse in the area where she lived, there is still a small population living there.
They Finally Succeeded
Once they began their search, it took many hours. The rescuers investigated every possible place and there was just no sign of the coyote.
Then, later on, they saw it in an open field and decided to act. Lea called the other rescuers for help and they were able to get close to the animal.
After they were finally next to it, the coyote didn’t resist. They were able to remove the jar from his head and he was finally able to breathe a sigh of relief.
Right after this happened, the coyote glanced gratefully at his rescuers and then ran off into the woods, probably looking for his next meal.
It was a tough rescue, but Lea was so happy that she reacted. It taught her something valuable, which is the importance of helping every animal no matter what it is.
She said: “Fight for that animal no matter if that is uncomfortable [or if] it puts you in a position where you have to take a stand. Be a warrior for helpless animals, [be] kind, compassionate and brave.”
They all deserve to live their lives, and if we have a chance to help them with that, no matter how small it is, it’s important that we do our part.
I would say that is a pretty good lesson to remember and I hope more people see this and do the same if they ever find themselves in such a situation.
