One thing is for sure: seeing a dog struggle in inhumane conditions is absolutely heartbreaking. Now, imagine what animal rescuers have to go through on a daily basis…
The things they see, the heartbreaks they feel, and all the helpless dogs they encounter – I don’t think we ever thank them enough.
Suzette Hall, a long-time rescuer from California, is one such hero who doesn’t wear a cape. Recently, she was on a mission to save two stray dogs living on railroad tracks when something shocking caught her attention.
The Harrowing Scene

Hall, the founder of the rescue organization called Logan’s Legacy, in Irvine, California, received a heartbreaking message: a bonded duo of pups were living on a dangerous site – railroad tracks, and they needed help.
Without thinking, Hall immediately got in the car and drove to the location. The locals informed her that the dogs had been there for about five days and were always together.
However, upon her arrival, she spotted only one of them.

“I received a message about two dogs living on the railroad tracks for the past 5 days and that they were always right by each other’s side. When I pulled up I could hear the little girl crying sitting alone by the train,” Hall wrote in a Facebook post.
The tiny female pup was lying outside in front of a train as if she were trying to signal something. She looked concerned and cried loudly but remained sitting in one spot.
When Hall approached her, she figured out why she wasn’t moving. Her best friend, the other pup, was lying nearby – and she couldn’t move at all.

Hall was absolutely heartbroken.
She realized the other pup was seriously injured and had a broken leg. Later, she learned that she had been hit by a car.
“I can’t imagine the pain she as in and how long she laid there in shock and pain
Look at that break in her leg,” Hall added in another post.
Finally Safe

After safely scooping up both dogs in a humane trap, Hall’s next stop was a veterinary hospital. Both dogs were carefully examined and the injured pup, a girl, now named Gumball, was immediately treated.
“I thought she was a boy, but she is a girl, and if her little friend had not been crying for her, I don’t know if I would’ve even seen her. We have named her Gumball,” Hall concluded.
Under the careful observation of Hall and the kind team of vets, the dogs’ condition will be monitored day by day. When they are ready, Gumball and her friend will be available for foster care where they will finally learn what love is all about.
I hope they never have to be separated again. And, if they do, I truly wish it’s because they’ve found loving families who will love and care for them forever!
