One thing is certain: seeing a dog struggle in unsafe, inhumane conditions is truly heartbreaking. Now imagine what dedicated rescuers witness every single day.
The things they go through, the pain they feel, and the number of helpless animals they meet – we could never thank them enough.
Suzette Hall, a devoted California rescuer, is one such person. Recently, she was called out to save two dogs surviving on railroad tracks. But what she discovered when she got there completely broke her heart.
A Shocking Sight

Hall, founder of the rescue organization Logan’s Legacy 29 in Irvine, California, received a desperate plea about two stray dogs spotted living on active railroad tracks. The caller said they had been there for several days and were never apart.
Wasting no time, Hall jumped into her car and headed straight to the location.
When she arrived, however, she saw only one of the dogs.

“I received a message about two dogs living on the railroad tracks for the past 5 days and that they were always right by each other’s side. When I pulled up I could hear the little girl crying sitting alone by the train,” Hall shared in a Facebook post.
The little female pup was sitting outside, right by a train, crying as if trying to get someone’s attention. She looked distressed but wouldn’t move from her spot.
It didn’t take long for Hall to realize why. Just a few feet away lay her best friend – badly hurt and unable to move.

Hall’s heart sank as she got closer.
The second pup had a serious leg injury. Later, she learned the poor dog had been struck by a car, leaving her unable to walk.
“I can’t imagine the pain she was in and how long she laid there in shock and pain. Look at that break in her leg,” Hall wrote in another post.
Finally Off The Tracks

Determined to save them both, Hall carefully set up a humane trap and managed to secure the dogs safely. She then rushed them to the vet for urgent care.
The injured pup – whom Hall originally thought was a boy – turned out to be a little girl. The team gave her the name Gumball.
“I thought she was a boy, but she is a girl, and if her little friend had not been crying for her, I don’t know if I would’ve even seen her. We have named her Gumball,” Hall explained.
Under the loving watch of Hall and her veterinary team, both dogs are now being closely monitored. Gumball will continue her treatment, and once the time is right, both pups will be placed in foster care where they can finally experience safety and love.
My hope is that these two never have to be apart again—unless it’s because they’ve each found their happily-ever-after with wonderful families who will cherish them forever.
