Sadie, a beautiful shelter dog, had lost all hope of ever changing her fate.
As the dog sat in her kennel in a shelter, looking through the bars, she kept whimpering.
All Sadie ever wanted was freedom and love, but she had stopped believing in her happily ever after and surrendered to sadness.
She had no idea that destiny was about to send her a life-changing surprise.
Sadie Meets Her Hero
Kelsey McDonough, a rescuer and the founder of the McDonough Rescue in Trabuco Canyon, California, often visits shelter dogs hoping to find them a home. She also makes time to visit the lonely and heartbroken pups who long for some companionship and love.
McDonough has seen many hopeless shelter dogs, but when she heard Sadie’s inconsolable whimpers coming from her kennel, she was both stunned and heartbroken.
“[The] first time I saw her, she stopped me dead in my tracks. She was just so shut down and so sad. It completely broke my heart,” McDonough told The Dodo.
Sadie was sitting in the corner of her kennel. McDonough could tell how much she needed someone to comfort her and tell her that everything would be alright.
The giant-hearted rescuer sat in front of her kennel, talking to her for hours and showering her with affection. She tried hard to relieve her sadness and make her feel better.
When McDonough had to go home, she promised Sadie to come back again the next day.
And she kept her promise. As soon as Sadie saw the rescuer the next morning, she wagged her tail and looked at her with hopeful eyes.
Sadie looked forward to the attention and love from her rescuer. Unfortunately, she still had no adoption applications.
McDonough wanted to help Sadie get out of the shelter and find a forever home, so she filmed her and posted the footage on TikTok.
She hoped that the exposure would help her fulfill her greatest dream.
“That night, I decided to post a video on TikTok to help get her some exposure and just honestly ask for help to get her out of that shelter. Her miracle came through,” McDonough added.
A Life Filled With Love
Not long after posting Sadie’s story online, the rescuer received the best possible news.
A young girl named Rilynn reached out to her and sent her a message with an attached photo of her and Sadie in the shelter’s parking lot. The sweet pup rejoiced at her second chance at freedom with her new mom.
Rilynn made a 36-hour round trip from Oregon to Los Angeles so that she could rescue Sadie.
McDonough was over the moon for her.
Sadie is thriving in her forever home, and she couldn’t be happier. She absorbs the endless love from her new family and enjoys going on adventures with her doggy sibling.
Thanks to her rescuer and new mom, the dog who once cried inconsolably in her kennel is now beaming with joy.
