A mother dog will do anything to protect her babies, even when she feels out of strength and has nowhere to go.
Stray mama dogs know this feeling too well. They constantly search for a place where their newborn puppies can rest without any fear.
The love she feels for her puppies gives her the strength to move forward.
One day, a small black-and-tan mama dog who was looking for food, appeared on a school campus.
The doggo looked exhausted but hopeful. She kept her distance and watched the people around her while trying to stay hidden.
Mama Dog Found On School Grounds
Staff members at a South California school noticed the little dog roaming across the campus. She looked malnourished and cautious.
Employees were worried about her, especially when they noticed that she recently gave birth. They wondered where her puppies were.
The mama dog would always show up alone.
Lori, who worked at the school, fed her whenever she saw her. The pup would always disappear into the distance as soon as she was given food.
“[She] would come and go, but we never knew where she disappeared to,” Suzette Hall, founder of Logan’s Legacy 29, wrote in a Facebook post.
After several attempts to capture the dog, Lori reached out to Hall for help.
Hall arrived as soon as she could, but the mother dog had already vanished again.
While Hall was searching the area, she noticed another pup entering and leaving a nearby duplex.
“Something told me to follow, and when I stepped inside, I couldn’t believe my eyes,” Hall wrote.
She found the mother dog resting by a family’s door at the entryway.
The residents explained that the dog was a stray who had given birth under the house.
In that moment, Hall knew her priority was finding all puppies and bringing them to safety.
Rescue Of The Puppies And Mama
Before long, Hall and Lori discovered six newborn puppies curled up deep inside a crawlspace beneath the house. The opening was too small for either woman to fit through.
Fortunately, a young man named Jeremy offered to help.
“We met the most wonderful young man, Jeremy, who absolutely saved the day. He got down on the ground and crawled way, way under the house … all he had was a mop,” Hall wrote.
Jeremy used the mop handle and gently led each puppy toward the opening. One by one, he pulled all the tiny babies to safety.
Since the babies had been rescued, Hall focused on rescuing the scared and confused mama dog.
When the doggo saw that her furbabies were no longer under the house, her heart sank and she desperately began looking for them.
It took hours for the mother dog to settle, but eventually, she entered Hall’s trap. Once she was reunited with her babies, she was over the moon. The puppies were thrilled, too.
“As soon as I reunited Mama with her puppies, oh my goodness,” Hall added. “They latched onto her immediately, tails wiggling, tiny cries turning into the sweetest little sighs. Mama relaxed for the first time, and the whole little family melted into each other.”
Hall drove the doggy family to a partner veterinary clinic, where they received care.
Later, the mama dog and her babies were placed in a foster home. The puppies are growing stronger every day, and Mama is finally getting the rest she deserved.
They will remain in foster care until they are fully ready for adoption.
Thanks to Hall, Lori, and Jeremy, this little family was rescued in the nick of time.
The days filled with fear and uncertainty ended. Now the family is happy to be together in a cozy and warm home.
