Washington Rescuer Breaks Down After Discovering Dogs Abandoned In Muddy Backyard

When animal rescuer Caryn logged into Facebook one day, she came across a post that immediately broke her heart.

It described a group of dogs who had been left locked in the yard of an abandoned home.

As a volunteer with the Humane Society of Mason County (HSMC) , Caryn knew she couldn’t just scroll past. When she realized that help wasn’t arriving fast enough, she decided to take action herself.

A Heartbreaking Discovery

The moment Caryn stepped onto the property and saw the dogs’ condition, she was overcome with emotion.

“[They] were found abandoned, living in squalid conditions,” the Humane Society of Mason County wrote in a video that documented the rescue.

The yard was a muddy mess, scattered with trash and dangerous debris. In total, six dogs were trapped there, including two best friends named Hank and Scooby.

When authorities finally reached the scene, Caryn received permission to arrange for the dogs’ removal. Thankfully, she had already secured safe places for all of them.

One dog was taken in by People for Animal Care and Kindness, while the remaining five went under the care of HSMC.

Before long, one of the rescued pups, Brutus, was placed in a loving foster home.

The others, Scooby, Hank, Tucker, and Ringo, were welcomed by a kind foster mom named Donna, who was determined to help them heal.

Healing Through Patience And Love

As weeks turned into months, Tucker and Ringo found their forever homes. But Scooby and Hank were still waiting.

The neglect they had endured left deep emotional scars, and both struggled with fear and shyness.

“Both boys were incredibly timid of new people, situations and loud noises. [B]ut they thrived around other dogs, who helped give them confidence,” an HSMC representative told The Dodo.

Despite their fear, rescuers refused to give up on them. They knew that, given time, the right families would come along.

And one day, that hope was rewarded.

“After 182 days with HSMC, Scooby has finally found his forever family! He loves his canine brother, and his new people will give him all the time he needs to feel safe and comfortable in his new home,” the organization shared.

Now, only Hank remains in search of his perfect match. But his progress has been remarkable, and everyone at HSMC believes his turn is coming soon.

“Hank has made incredible progress in his foster home, gaining confidence every day. He is incredibly polite while playing with his older canine sister, who has severe arthritis, and he loves to race around the yard with his younger playmates,” the representative said.

From a frightened, withdrawn dog to a joyful and gentle companion, Hank’s transformation is proof of what love and patience can achieve.

The right family won’t just be adopting a pet, they’ll be welcoming a loyal, grateful friend for life.

If you think you might be that family, visit the Humane Society of Mason County’s website to learn how you can bring Hank home.

Good luck, Hank. Your forever home is out there waiting.
