Tinker, a gentle dog from Florida, experienced this when her owners brought her to a shelter. Suddenly alone behind kennel bars, she retreated into herself, as if convinced that joy had slipped out of reach for good.
Tinker Withdraws After Losing Her Family
Dali, a South Florida rescuer known for sharing emotional dog stories on TikTok, captured Tinker’s sorrow in a video that quickly gained attention online.
In the video, the small dog sat completely still in her cramped kennel, facing the wall for hours on end, disconnected from the world around her.
“This happens to dogs after they’ve been in the shelter for a really long time. Tinker is giving up hope that anyone will adopt her. She sits facing the wall for hours,” Dali wrote.
Tinker had recently lost the only family she had ever known, leaving her alone in a world of uncertainty.
Unfortunately, potential adopters kept passing her by, misunderstanding her behavior as aggression.
In reality, Tinker craved affection but was fearful of being picked up due to past trauma. She saw it as threatening, which caused many to wrongly label her as hostile.
Despite this, Saving Sage Animal Rescue in Lauderhill, Florida, remained committed to helping Tinker and the other dogs in their care.
They wanted to give each dog the chance to heal, but Tinker remained withdrawn inside her kennel, waiting for a change that seemed far out of reach.

“Tinker is a gentle spirit, a true couch potato who loves to relax and enjoys short strolls outside,” the rescue shared on Facebook.

The story quickly spread, leading to a surge of adoption inquiries.
“Where are you located? Please send information. I would love to adopt her,” one viewer wrote.
“I’ll take her. Where is she?” another asked.
It didn’t take long for the right family to come forward. Within days, they reached out to Saving Sage Animal Rescue, eager to meet Tinker.
When Tinker met her potential adopters, her excitement was undeniable. She instantly connected with them, and by the end of the day, she was on her way to her new home.
