Ohio Rescue Dog Waited 7 Years To Get Adopted Only To Be Returned To The Shelter Weeks Later

For a shelter dog who longs for a loving home, every day feels like an eternity.

The canines can do nothing else but wait for someone to finally notice them and give them a chance to prove that they are worthy of love.

Nitro waited for his chance at love for seven long years. Despite calling the shelter his home for so long, the dog didn’t give in to sadness and kept hoping that his time would finally come.

However, when it finally seemed like everything was falling into place, something unexpected happened.

Nitro’s Glimpse Of Happiness

When Nitro found a family, everyone at The Healthy Hearts and Paws Project, a shelter in Warren, Ohio, was thrilled for him.

The doggo was overjoyed, too, and he couldn’t wait to start the next chapter of his life – the one he thought would be the happiest.

Heartbreakingly, things didn’t work out as everyone had hoped for.

One of his family’s dogs didn’t get along with the pup. As a result, Nitro returned to the shelter a few weeks later.

He felt confused and wondered why he wasn’t good enough.

Although the staff was devastated for him, they refused to lose hope that their beloved dog would eventually find his happiness.

“This is definitely not a post we wanted to post, but we remain hopeful for Nitro’s future. Our hearts break for him, as we truly believe he had finally found his forever home,” The Healthy Hearts and Paws Project shared in a Facebook post.

His shelter friends had nothing but words of praise for the delightful pup. Apart from having an affectionate character, Nitro was energetic and playful.

Since Nitro is a big fan of hiking and swimming in lakes, his shelter friends believe that he would be a great companion for someone who loves adventures.

The dog doesn’t have many opportunities to go hiking due to a small number of volunteers.

The Doggo Refuses To Lose Hope

When meeting potential adopters, Nitro doesn’t show his true personality right away.

“We recognize that when meeting a dog, one expects attention; however, this is something he struggles with during his stay, as this environment is all he knows,” the shelter wrote in an update.

Nitro’s shelter friends know him best and are convinced that he will show his true character once he leaves the shelter for good.

“We remain optimistic that his perfect match is still out there, and this setback is merely a detour…” the organization shared in their first post following Nitro’s return to the shelter.

If you’re interested in giving Nitro the chance that he had been waiting for so long, reach out to The Healthy Hearts and Paws Project in order to arrange a meet-and-greet.

We hope Nitro won’t have to spend any more time in the shelter. This lovely boy deserves to finally find a place to call home and meet humans who will never give up on him.
