Have you ever welcomed your dog’s puppies into the world? If so, you know it comes with overwhelming cuteness. But you also know it means sleepless nights, stress, and worry, because raising multiple newborns all at once is no small task.
Now picture the reaction of Virginia rescuers when they discovered that one of their newest arrivals, a dog named Love Bug, had given birth to an extraordinary litter.
This wasn’t a normal number of puppies. It wasn’t anything anyone had prepared for. And it certainly wasn’t easy. Still, with determination, Love Bug and her caretakers managed it like seasoned experts.
An Incredible Number Of Puppies
The team at Hope for Life Rescue in Virginia couldn’t have been more thankful that they stepped in just in time to save Love Bug and her newborns.
This nervous mama had recently delivered a jaw-dropping fourteen puppies. Yet when rescuers first approached, she was far too protective to let them anywhere near her little ones.
She guarded them closely and refused to allow anyone to lend a hand in their care.
Even with such a huge litter, Love Bug devoted herself to every single pup. But the rescuers understood that raising fourteen babies would require support if all were to stay healthy and strong.
They spent several days working to earn her trust. Slowly but surely, the cautious mother began to open up.
“Momma is starting to trust us and has been letting us weigh her puppies daily to ensure that they are all getting adequate nutrition,” the Virginia rescue wrote in a Facebook post.
Eventually, she even permitted the staff to help feed her pups, which marked a major breakthrough.
“Love Bug still isn’t sure what to make of people, but she happily accepts any help when it comes to her babies. 14 is A LOT,” the rescue added in another post.
By the end of the month, Love Bug had volunteers reading to her, treating her to homemade meals, and showering her with affection. Along with being a devoted mother, she blossomed into a beloved favorite at the shelter.
Forever Homes For Mom And Pups
It didn’t take long before Love Bug’s lively puppies captured the hearts of families eager to adopt.
Once the pups were strong enough to be listed, every single one found a permanent home almost immediately.
And after pouring all her energy into raising them, it was Love Bug’s turn to be cherished.
The resilient dog was adopted by Sandy Walker, and it proved to be the perfect match.
Now renamed Ruby, she was quickly embraced by her new family with endless love. She learned how to walk on a leash, explore the outdoors, and interact with new people.
Today, Ruby is the star of her household. She’s a playful character who sometimes insists on her own way — she squeals when she wants something and loves stealing her dad’s chair. Sandy and her family couldn’t be happier to have her in their lives.
