New York Rescue Dog Bonds With Owner, Then Steals Her Boyfriend’s Heart Too

New York Rescue Dog Bonds With Owner, Then Steals Her Boyfriend’s Heart Too

Sometimes, it’s not you who picks the dog, the dog picks you.

Often, a single glance from a shelter pup can spark a bond so powerful, it feels like life wouldn’t be complete without them.

That’s exactly what happened when Chelsea walked into the Animal Care Center in New York. One look into a pair of soulful brown eyes, and she was hooked. Those eyes belonged to a dog named Pickles.

A Rough Start For A Sweet Soul

Before meeting Chelsea, Pickles had endured a harsh beginning. She was discovered tied to a pole during a heat wave, left without water or shade.

A veterinary exam revealed she had recently given birth, even though she was only about a year old. Her story touched the hearts of the shelter staff, who placed her up for adoption, hoping someone would give her the life she deserved.

That someone turned out to be Chelsea.

Pickles was unsure of her new surroundings at first.

“She was very curious. I don’t think she had lived indoors before. The car was like a UFO to her. She would not stop staring at the TV and got very confused as it played,” Chelsea told GeoBeats

But once she settled in, Pickles quickly discovered her favorite thing: affection.

Whenever Chelsea sat down or lay on the couch, Pickles would rush over for cuddles.

But Chelsea wasn’t the only one she wanted to snuggle with. Pickles developed a strong attachment to Chelsea’s boyfriend.

A Diva With A Soft Spot For Her Man

From the moment they met, Pickles was clearly enamored.

“She is kind of a boyfriend stealer and very much likes to put her paws like over his leg and she always makes sure to sit in between us so that we are not actually touching,” she said.

The once timid shelter dog had transformed into a confident diva, soaking up attention at every opportunity.

If Chelsea got too close to her boyfriend, Pickles would grow visibly jealous, making playful noises to redirect the spotlight back to herself.

“Anytime that she thinks my boyfriend has given me too much attention and not her, she’ll voice her sassiness that she’s disapproving. She will give a little yell at him too. They are just two peas in the pod now. That’s definitely her boyfriend,” she concluded.
