Illinois Pup’s Strange Bedtime Ritual Has Owners Laughing And The Internet Obsessed

Until recently, I never realized how much dogs rely on routine. Of course, most follow the usual pattern of meals, walks, and naps. But every so often, a dog comes up with a habit so unexpectedly funny that you can’t help but laugh.

Over the years, I’ve seen plenty of quirky canine behaviors. There’s even a neighborhood dog who bolts back and forth across an empty street for no apparent reason. It may not make sense to us, but it’s clearly his favorite pastime.

That’s the charm of dogs: their odd little habits might puzzle us, yet they always have meaning for them. And sometimes, those rituals are downright hilarious.

Take Pancake, a Chicago dog whose bedtime routine first left her owners baffled before turning into an internet sensation.

The Nightly Ritual That Never Gets Old

When Bruno and Beth first noticed Pancake’s strange nightly behavior, they didn’t know what to make of it. Pancake had been part of their lives for years, known as a sweet mix of laid-back and silly.

She could lounge for hours without a care, then suddenly burst into wild zoomies, which made her all the more entertaining.

Then came the unexpected twist: Pancake began crawling under her parents’ bed. Not just occasionally, it quickly turned into a nightly tradition.

They still don’t know exactly why, but they suspect it’s her safe place. She craves being near them, and that spot under the bed seems to be her chosen haven.

It didn’t stay confined to evenings either. After breakfast, she often retreated under the bed again for a nap.

Usually, Bruno let her settle there for a while before gently coaxing her back to her own spot. Pancake didn’t love being moved, but she accepted it grudgingly.

Under-Bed Adventures, Explained (Sort Of)

After watching Pancake repeat the same routine over and over, Bruno decided to capture it on video. Once posted on TikTok, the clip quickly went viral. Pancake wasn’t the only dog with such an odd nighttime habit.

Comments poured in, and people were hooked.

One user wrote: “I want her to outfit that space like a proper fort with decorative accents and a ‘no boys allowed’ sign.”

It really does seem like more than a hiding place, it’s her own little sanctuary.

Another added: “I feel like I see one of these vids of Pancake every week. That’s her favorite hiding spot lol.”

Seeing how much joy Pancake’s routine brought, Bruno and Beth continued sharing her antics. Each clip was just as funny as the last.

One more commenter chimed in: “My older dog plays this game too. I had to put a ton of stuff under the bed so he can’t get deep.”

That might work for some, but it would be hard to take away a spot Pancake clearly treasures.

In the end, Pancake’s nightly crawl under the bed is just another reminder of how dogs, like people, find comfort in familiar routines. And sometimes, those routines turn out to be as endearing as they are funny.
