Life sure can get tough at times.
Sometimes, to get through it, all we need is a loyal friend who is willing to hold out a hand or paw. This is especially true for animals who are forced to stay in shelters for a longer period.
As much as the shelter staff tries to make their stay as comfortable and enjoyable as ever, a friend of their own is something the animals need the most.
Luckily, two pups named Karma and Gigi found each other in a shelter in Boston, Massachusetts, and made an oath that no matter what, they would have each other’s backs.
To New Beginnings

Even though they were rescued from the same home before arriving at the Animal Rescue League of Boston (ARL), Gigi and Karma weren’t as close as one might think.
Most of the time, they were alone and kept to themselves. However, after a staff member noticed that one was struggling to adapt to the loud and chaotic environment of the shelter, they knew they had to do something.
“For Karma, it was a very difficult beginning. ARL’s shelter staff decided to put the two of them in the same kennel, and almost immediately, Gigi was able to calm Karma down. From there, the bond forged very quickly!” Mike DeFina, ARL’s media relations manager, told The Dodo.
And, just like that, the two became inseparable. Even though they had completely different personalities, they still managed to become best friends.

Two Peas In A Pod
Gigi adores the attention. The second she sees a new face, she runs over to introduce herself. This, in turn, helps Karma, giving her the confidence she needs to meet new friends.
“Side by side, they’re comical, but they balance each other in a perfect way. Karma is very sweet, but her fearfulness prohibits her from being immediately open to new things. She warms up slowly, but once she does, she is an incredibly sweet and affectionate dog,” he added.

As time went by, and as they spent more time together, Karma and Gigi developed an unbreakable bond. They even started complimenting each other’s quirks and refused to do anything alone.
Now, the duo’s mission is to find themselves a warm, loving home. And, even though it can be quite challenging to find a family willing to adopt two dogs at once, the kind hoomans at the ARL refused to give up hope.

Good Things Come To Those Who Wait
In the blink of an eye, the shelter was visited by a couple who recently lost their “odd couple” pups and were looking for a new addition to their family. The second they met Karma and Gigi, they knew they were the perfect duo for them.
They immediately filed for adoption, and without wasting a single second, the shelter approved it.
“Karma and Gigi’s dream home was one with a relatively quiet environment, where they would have the space to spread out and be themselves. Opening your heart and home to not one, but two animals is a huge commitment. We are so thankful that the two of them found the perfect situation!” DeFina stated.

Two weeks after arriving at their new home, the pups were super excited to spend their holidays with a loving family. And, even with this huge change, the pups remained as close as ever.
“They are very gentle with one another, and after playtime, you can always find them curled up together for a nap. They are so reliant on one another, and the power of their bond is incredible!” he said.

Seeing how loved and cared for the pups were, the folks at the ARL couldn’t be happier. This adorable duo not only found a warm home, but they were also able to stay together. Knowing how long and hard their journey was made the whole thing so much sweeter. “We work with animals every day, but when you see Karma and Gigi together, you have to stop and see the strength of their bond; it is absolutely awe-inspiring. We are thrilled the two of them were able to start the next chapter of their lives together and are thriving in their new home,” DeFina concluded.
