All Kelly ever wanted was to be loved, but instead, life had given her rejection.
Once in the hands of a cruel breeder, the sweet pup had been used for profit, then discarded when she was no longer considered useful.
Hungry and heartbroken, Kelly wandered the streets searching for compassion.
With every slow step down those lonely roads, she still clung to the hope that someone would notice her and offer a helping hand.
Even after everything she had endured, Kelly never stopped believing that kindhearted people were out there.
Kelly’s Arrival At The Shelter
The Humane Society of Broward County, based in Fort Lauderdale, Florida stepped in as soon as rescuers spotted Kelly on the streets.
Seeing how thin and neglected she was broke their hearts.
Once she arrived at the shelter, Kelly quickly charmed everyone with her sweet personality. She craved affection and happily soaked up cuddles from her new friends.
“Kelly is an absolute love bug and enjoys being with people and getting affection. She is goofy and likes to play with chew toys and go for walks,” Susan Leonti, the digital marketing specialist at the Humane Society of Broward County told Newsweek.
The team hoped to place her in a home quickly. After all she had suffered, they knew Kelly needed to experience the love and comfort only a family could give.
To help her chances, they posted a video on social media telling her story. The clip showed a hopeful dog standing in her kennel, tail wagging.
Not long after, a couple looking to adopt their first dog saw the video and fell for Kelly instantly.
The very next day, they came to the Florida shelter, eager to take her home.
Happiness That Didn’t Last
The staff was thrilled to see Kelly heading off to what they thought would be her forever home.
On adoption day, Kelly was glowing with excitement. She ran to say goodbye to her shelter friends, her tail wagging wildly.
Her new parents took her home with every intention of making her happy, but things took an unexpected turn.
Soon after arriving, they discovered one of them was allergic to dogs. Heartbroken, the couple returned to the shelter, knowing they had no choice.
Kelly had only just tasted happiness, and now it was gone.
Back in her kennel, she seemed crushed.
“Since being returned, Kelly has had such a sad and worried look on her face. When we walk by her kennel, she cries out to us and has a look of desperation in her eyes. It is simply heartbreaking to see,” Leonti added.
Though she enjoys the kindness of her shelter friends, Kelly longs for a family of her own.
She dreams of the day she will finally know what it’s like to be loved and cherished.
With luck, that day will come soon, because she truly deserves it.
